Call for proposals for an individual expert or organization to distribute milk analyzers in southwestern Uganda
Background
Dairy value chains are rapidly changing in Uganda. However, currently there is no market for quality. This is partly due to the fact that milk of several small producers is aggregated at Milk Collection Centers where milk is cooled in big tanks for further transport to processors. This practice makes it hard to trace back quality to individual farmers.
As part of the CGIAR Rethinking Markets Initiative, IFPRI, together with CIMMYT and the Dairy Development Authority (DDA), is piloting a project in the southwestern milk shed of Uganda to make milk quality traceable throughout the value chain. This involves the distribution, installation and monitoring of milk analyzers in selected milk collection centers. This would enable milk collection center to test milk samples brought in by farmers and register the outcome in a simple app.
