What You Will Do:

As Camp Operations Manager, you will assist in the coordination and administration of youth programs located in Prince William Forest Park, a National Park in northern Virginia. In the off-season, you will optimize operational logistics and expand the camp’s equitable outreach and enrollment efforts, while supporting campus operations during Environmental Science programs. You will work closely with other departments to ensure efficient operations and transitions between programs. In the summer, the Camp Administrator is a crucial member of the campus administrative team, leading Camp operational logistics, interacting with families, and supporting camp instructional staff.

This position is a seasonally hybrid position. During Environmental Science (ESCI) program seasons (fall, spring), you will work from campus a minimum of three days per week; During Camp program season (summer) you will be on campus 5 days per week. During the off-season (December-February), you will be able to work primarily from home.

The is a full-time position beginning September 1st, 2024. 

Your primary job will be to:

Camp Logistics/Campus Operations: Lead and manage camp logistics before and during program implementation

  • Collaborate in the marketing of programs:
    • Create and update camp outreach materials
    • Represent and promote NatureBridge programs at community fairs and open house events.
    • Keep the camp website up-to-date with current offerings and relevant information. 
  • Work with the sales team to manage registration and logistics:
    • Manage camp registration software
    • Create group lists and maintain arrival and departure spreadsheets
    • Build and maintain Active Network as the camp’s registration database for each new camp season. 
  • Collaborate with campus leadership to ensure smooth day-to-day Camp operations.
    • During Camp program season (summer) work from the PRWI campus 5 days per week; serving as Day Manager and supporting arrival and departure logistics for campers.
    • Primary responder on the radio for staff and camper needs and concerns during Camp

Customer Relationships

  • Prepare campers and guardians for their Camp experience.  
    • Communicate with parents/guardians, collect registrations, answer questions, discuss confidential medical information, etc.
    • Respond to camp emails and phone calls
  • Provide direct customer service attention and troubleshooting; mediate conflicts and address complaints

General Responsibilities

  • Serve as Day Manager (problem-solving, customer service, staff management, partner and vendor relations
  • Provide essential support during programs and emergencies, including delegation and reporting.
  • Work closely with all department leads to provide a seamless transition between Environmental Science and summer camp programs; Coordinate and optimize Camp’s seasonal calendar.
  • Regularly review participant feedback data from campers and guardians; recommend and implement improvements
  • Work with the Campus Risk Manager to implement and model excellent risk management practices and maintain a safe environment for our students and staff. 
  • Manage a budget as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation:

  • $43,000-54,000 annually

Who You Are:

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Understanding of summer camp programming and logistics, and a dedication to creating positive camper experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing risk in the outdoors.
  • Thorough, decisive, with strong analytical ability, and good judgment; excellent time management and record keeping skills; attention to detail essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in customer service and external communication; Demonstrated skills in speaking with parents/guardians about their camper’s needs.
  • Flexible to changing demands; maintain respectful communication in an environment with conflicting priorities; experience working creatively with limited resources to achieve maximum impact.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in the workplace.   • Able to work both independently and as a member of a team; willingness to be coached and open to feedback;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; 
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, SalesForce, ActiveNet, and Adobe Acrobat are a plus.
  • Fluency in a second language is a plus; Spanish-language ability is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Valid and current driver’s license necessary.
  • Current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification or willingness to obtain training after being hired.
