Closing date: 12 February 2024
Animal Justice Project is an NGO that works strategically within five key areas to achieve an end to animal farming: Undercover investigations, pressure campaigning, education, organising and public engagement.
We are seeking an experienced, strategic and creative Campaigner with the drive to create change for farmed animals in the UK. You will be part of a small, high-impact team specialising in consumer education and political advocacy.
As Campaigner, you will be working closely with the Campaigns Manager and Social Media & Marketing Manager to create and implement ground-breaking advocacy projects for farmed animals. The fun and interactive role of Campaigner will require responsibility for creating both high impact consumer awareness and the pressure campaign strategies – from putting initial ideas on the table to rolling them out across our platforms, in conjunction with supporting fundraising initiatives. While the emphasis will be on The Foul Truth campaign, as a Campaigner, you will also provide proactive support for other projects.
Working as part of a highly effective team within a fast-paced environment, the Campaigner will cultivate relationships with decision-makers and members of the public, in the coordination of imaginative and effective campaigns.
You must be willing and able to travel nationwide when required to organise street events, give campaign-related talks and manage regional press. Ability to drive is essential due to the need for national travel in often difficult-to-reach areas, with sometimes large volumes of campaign materials.
Previous professional experience within the animal rights field is desirable, bringing a good working knowledge of campaigning methods and tactics and a keen eye for finding new exciting campaigning opportunities. You must be able to work autonomously on tasks using your creativity and leadership to plan, coordinate and deliver short and long-term hard hitting campaigns which deliver results.
Whilst this position is largely normal office hours, work outside these will be required (e.g. relating to stunts, press conferences, investigation launches, talks and events). Time off in lieu will be given as appropriate.
The role will involve:
• Planning, carrying out and evaluating Animal Justice Project campaigns, and launching associated undercover investigations
• Creating both high-impact consumer awareness and pressure campaign strategies to create maximum impact with different audiences
• Sharing the results of undercover investigations with the appropriate retailers, industry bodies and government and utilising any action/responses to strengthen campaigns
• Dealing with general enquiries from supporters and members of the public relating to animal farming
• Creating and commissioning content for social media and online campaigning
• Organising street events and actions, talk confidently to camera, and manage regional press
• Copywriting for email communications, features, external publications and websites, blogs, social media articles and print materials
Skills:
• Strong copywriting abilities
• Excellent communicator – able to communicate creative and strategic plans to the rest of the team
• Ability to organise a diverse workload, prioritise and work under pressure
• Experience of running successful campaigns – ideally at professional level – use marketing tools, update websites, and manage successful online campaigns
• Possess precise and comprehensive research skills on vegan issues. This may include producing written and fully referenced background reportsHave the ability to develop, coordinate and lead campaign activities including street actions, photo-calls, stunts and other events
• Be confident when evaluating and writing up results to share with the Director, Campaigns Manager and other team members
• Have a creative flair and a passion for animal rights and veganism
• Excel at time management and organisational skills
• Be an excellent proof-reader
• Experience of political lobbying
• Knowledge of digital campaigning, especially using social media
• Pay attention to detail and adherence to brand guidelines
• Have experience with Engaging Networks and Webflow
• Ability to deal with distressing subject matter, including undercover film footage.
