The Cancer Care Navigator plays a crucial role in the healthcare journey of patients by establishing connection between the patient and health system, facilitating diagnostic studies, and providing education to patients and families undergoing malignancy workup. The Cancer Care Navigator collaborates closely with patients, families, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team, employing a trauma-informed approach to deliver support and guidance, while acknowledging the unique challenges individuals may encounter during this challenging journey. Responsibilities encompass fostering a supportive environment, implementing comprehensive plans, and ensuring the efficient progression of patients from the identification of abnormal radiological findings to potential malignancy treatments. Within this role, the Cancer Care Navigator influences the progression of care, facilitates patient navigation through diagnostic episodes, and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure thorough follow-up care. Additional duties include providing guidance on scheduling appointments, addressing access barriers, and responding to clinical care-related questions. Serving as a liaison within the facility and the clinicians, the Cancer Care Navigator plays a key role in connecting patients with the services they need. While previous trauma-informed care training is beneficial, the organization is committed to providing this essential training for the right candidate, inviting professionals to join in making a positive impact and contributing to the transformation of healthcare experiences for the unique patient population. Required Education & Experience:
RN (can be RN associate, RN bachelor’s, or RN master’s) five years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Patient satisfaction orientation.
*Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage time and competing demands.
*Knowledge of cancer evaluation and testing, including radiography, tissue diagnosis, and next-generation testing.
*Familiarity with basic treatment protocols for common malignancies (breast, lung, colon, prostate)
*General Computer Skills: Including Microsoft Access, Excel, Outlook and Word
*Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and the ability to apply them in a healthcare setting.
*Familiarity with social determinants of health and their impact on patient outcomes.
*Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
