Canteen, Camp Quality and Redkite are working together to provide Cancer Hub – a digital hub to help families impacted by cancer more easily access the practical and emotional support they need, when they need it.

Online Support is one service offered by Cancer Hub. The primary focus is to provide digital therapeutic, evidence-based interventions to young people aged 12-25, and to parents/carers of children and young people aged 0-25.

We are now seeking an Online Counsellor to deliver digital counselling via telephone, video and webchat for young people and parents/carers. Our Online Counsellors work rostered shifts to cover the set opening hours of our ad-hoc chat and booked appointment service.

About our role

  1. Deliver Online Counselling: Provide high quality, evidence-based digital counselling support primarily to young people aged 12-25, and parents/carers/kin who have children aged 0-25.
  2. Team Collaboration and Program Development: Collaborate and consult with peers/across Cancer Hub/Canteen/Alliance; sharing practice through teaching and learning opportunities; contributing to team projects and overall development of the service.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement: Work collaboratively with all services under Cancer Hub as well as Alliance Partners, and other external stakeholders to ensure young people and families receive access to the supports that best meet their needs.
  4. Online Community Development: Support the growth and development of online communities, Canteen Connect and Parenting Through Cancer. This includes participation in moderation, care coordination, generation of content, and supporting consumer engagement.
  5. Group Programs: Facilitate evidence-based, digital group interventions to young people and parents/carers that include psychoeducation, therapeutic content, expression and peer support.

There is a set roster for this position (just short of 0.8FTE), which is:

  • Wednesday 12noon-8 pm Sydney time
  • Thursday 12noon-8 pm Sydney time
  • Friday 10 am-4 pm Sydney time
  • Saturday 10 am-5 pm Sydney time.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, counselling or social work that provide eligibility for registration per below (usually Bachelor level and above).
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain accreditation, membership or licensing from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA), the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), The Australian Counselling Association (ACA), The Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), The Australian Psychology Society (APS) or equivalent national registering body.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the clinical setting and/or counselling service using evidence-based interventions (eg SFT, MI, ACT, Narrative). Telehealth counselling experience preferred.
  • Experience working with young people and families, knowledge of youth-informed practice.
  • Experience administering assessments with young people and the ability to coordinate care.
  • Knowledge of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional administrative responsibilities such as case notes, report writing, data entry, responding to and following up client correspondence.
  • Demonstrated experience, confidence using and ability to learn web-based technology.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills across a variety of mediums.
  • Flexibility to travel interstate if, and when required.
  • Current Working with Children Check and willingness to undergo National Criminal History Police Clearance.
  • Warm and approachable, ability to listen actively, friendly and professional.
