Job Title: Capacity Building Support Specialist, Scotland
Start Date: As soon as possible
Duration of Contract: 1-year fixed term contract
Probation Period: Three months
Gross Salary: £38,410 per annum
Location: Fauna & Flora’s office space in central Edinburgh, UK. Current policy offers partial remote working within the UK

Fauna & Flora is seeking an institutional development specialist with experience of working
directly with Community-based Organisations (CBOs) or small, locally-based groups, for a
one-year fixed term role. This role has been designed to meet an expressed need captured during
the 2023 Coastal Communities Network gathering and is linked directly to grant funding,
providing a short-term boost to enable these groups to move forward. The Capacity Building
Support Specialist, Scotland, will lead provision of a package of bespoke measures designed to
catalyse and kickstart the institutional development of a small pool of CBOs in Scotland, each
of whom are engaging in the protection, management and/or restoration of their local natural
environment. Working with a selection of agreed CBOs, the postholder will provide varied and
carefully judged forms of engagement (e.g. technical input, advice, training, organisational
development and mentoring) specifically designed to help each CBO overcome major barriers to
institutional and financial sustainability, likely including actions required to enable CBOs to
recruit and retain staff members in the future. In addition to providing this tailored
technical support, the post holder will also support these CBOs to access accompanying funding
available from an internal grant scheme managed by Fauna & Flora, helping them to obtain
funding needed to invest directly in their long-term organisational capacity.

You will be a skilled and experienced institutional development specialist with experience of
working directly with CBOs or similar groups. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and
a strong ability to work sensitively and constructively with groups and individuals. You will
have strong experience of supporting the development of local grassroots organisations/CBOs,
demonstrable abilities in mentoring and supporting individuals and organisations and experience
of liaising remotely with a range of partners and stakeholders. You will have a
tried-and-tested toolkit of methods to apply to a range of group development scenarios and will
be self-motivated, independent, resourceful and committed to producing high quality work.

In return, the role offers the opportunity to work within a ground-breaking and entrepreneurial
organisation, at the forefront of global conservation, and alongside a vibrant and dynamic
community network at an exciting stage of its development. In addition, Fauna & Flora
offers a generous pension contribution, attractive annual leave allowance and life insurance.
This position is based at Fauna & Flora’s Central Edinburgh office space, with partial
remote working within the UK, to be agreed between the post-holder and line-manager. Some
UK-wide travel may be required.
