About us: Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid (MH) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit, non-partisan organization that works in conflict torn and disaster affected areas to save lives, sustain human rights and restore a healthy community. Mercy Hands has implemented since 2005 protection interventions in Iraq for both children and youth with a gender sensitive approach, addressing both emergency and development needs, and fostering sustainable development pathways.

About the project: Mercy Hands will target vulnerable women (refugees, returnees, IDPs) in Baghdad (Abu Ghraib, Latifiya, Hoor Rajab, Mahmoudia districts) through agricultural training on innovative farming techniques (i.e. hydroponic systems) and asset distribution, to improve their economic conditions, through entrepreneurial training and tutorship for female beneficiaries, through grassroots mobilisation to advance dialogue on women’s engagement in climate action. With the project, Mercy Hands will support vulnerable women in building adaptive capacities to environmental shocks and help them meet their needs in the shorter and longer term.

About the role: The Capacity Building Trainer/Tutor will assist in the implementation of the project “Strengthening resilience of vulnerable refugee and IDP women impacted by crises, displacement, and disasters due to climate change and exacerbated food insecurity in Baghdad”, in partnership with UN Women.

The Capacity Building Trainer will be working in implementation of Activity 1.1.4 “Capacity Building on credit seeking, technical development, international networking, online marketing. Each business model course has 4 half-day sessions. The course runs on two shifts (morning and afternoon), for 4 days/month over total activity duration of 4 months” and Activity 1.2.1 “Establish a tutorship system to provide capacity-building. Tutorship lasts for 4 months with tutorship provided to 53 BNFs/district/month. Individual tutorship sessions will happen in the empowerment centre.”

He/She will report directly to the Project Manager.  

Responsibilities: The Trainer/Tutor’s duties include:

• Lead 8 business courses for a total of 272 participants. Each course lasts for 4 days. Each course has 17 participants. Each course has double shift – morning participants and afternoon participants.
• Every month, the Trainer works for 8 days (Sunday to Thursday – Morning shift: 10 AM-12.30; Afternoon shift: 1PM-3:30PM) conducting the Business course.
• Provide individual tutorship on business development, to capacitate 214 women to develop their small/medium businesses.
• The Trainer/Tutor will conduct short individual mentorship sessions.
• The Trainer/Tutor has a target of 53 women consulted per month. The tutor can decide how to distribute the consultations, whether to condense them in the 2 weeks not occupied by the training, or to address individual beneficiaries also after end of training sessions.
• The Trainer/Tutor will operate in the empowerment centre, where both the training courses and the individual tutorship sessions will be conducted.

Candidate requirements:

– Knowledge of Business Management;

– Experience in Training;

– Experience in Tutorship/Mentorship;

– Experience and/or interest in Green Economy, Agriculture Tech (greenhouse – hydroponic farming);

– Good knowledge of IT communication tools;

– Immediate availability.
