Job Summary The Office of Professional and Career Development within the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University seeks candidates for a Career Counselor position to advise and counsel students and alumni concerning career choices and employment opportunities.

Essential Functions The responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Provides individual and group career counseling to include (but not limited to) career development, career choice, workplace transition, and career development issues and assessments.

  • Plans, develops, and/or presents informational and co-curricular programs related to issues such as career development, career choice, academic plans, workplace transition, and job search skill development.

  • Documents, reports on, and/or maintains records and evaluation information from counseling/program sessions.

  • May coordinate internship job-related data.

  • May train students as peer career counselors.

  • Assists in the design and implementation of procedures.

  • May serve as a liaison between students and employers, persuade employers to recruit student and campus graduates and encourage students to research companies and practice interviewing skills.

  • Teaches in the undergraduate professional development curriculum and contributes to the design and assessment of the courses.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
Level I: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Counseling, or related field no experience required.
Level II: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Counseling, or related field plus 2 years of experience providing career counseling and planning services.
Level III: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Counseling, or related field plus 4 years of experience providing career counseling and planning services. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities Must have great communication skills to connect with students, alumni, and employers.
Familiarity with career assessment instruments, knowledge of career fields and employment markets, knowledge of career/job search engines/websites, ability to work collaboratively with other staff in teams to accomplish goals.
Minimum Technology Skills Microsoft Suite.
