Overview:

  • Part-time (0.6 FTE), Fixed Term contract until December 2024 – Hybrid working 

  • Salary HEW 7, $94,838 p.a + 17% superannuation 

  • Based at the Bundoora West Campus but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University and at other VE institutions and workplaces. 

 

About the role 

Delivered in partnership with the Victorian Skills Authority, the RMIT Skills and Jobs Centre offers free, expert advice on training, re-skilling, and job options for prospective students, job seekers and members of the community as well as providing a secondary career service for RMIT Vocational Education students. Through a free, tailored career counselling service and regular employment workshops, the Skills and Jobs Centre provides support to the local community, RMIT students and employers. 

 

The Careers Consultant Role 

As the Careers Consultant you will contribute to the performance and reputation of the RMIT Skills and Jobs Centre through providing careers support to Skills and Jobs Centre clients and providing outreach work to schools, community groups and other bodies that help clients access pathways to employment and education. This role comprises of 5 main elements: 

 

1: Careers Consultations 

Provide 1:1 and group career support to clients seeking help with employment or education pathways. This role will also provide Careers support onsite at other community organisations (outreach work) and will also be required to work across RMIT’s 3 campuses. Experience working with community stakeholders will be highly regarded. 

 

2: Workshop Facilitation:  

This role will require workshop facilitation on employability topics to a wide variety of stakeholders that include RMIT VE students, high school students, community organisation groups and public audiences. 

 

The ability to tailor and run workshops both face to face and online is essential. Experience with diverse audience groups / ages and experience with those experiencing employment disadvantage will be looked upon favourably 

 

3: Stakeholder Management: 

Manage relationships with stakeholders and provide outreach work. Promote Skills and Jobs Centre services to all relevant stakeholders internally and externally by doing regular outreach campaigns to stakeholders. Be an active member of the Skills and Jobs Centre Network. 

 

4:  Representation at Career Fairs: 

Work on the booths for Career Fairs and Expos / Open days / Orientation Days etc. Local travel will be required for this role. On occasion, you will need to be available on weekends and evenings to attend careers events in schools, career expos or networking opportunities. 

 

Skills & Experience 

  • Demonstrated experience in a Careers Consultation role working with diverse audience groups, ages and abilities. 

  • Ability to develop and deliver training addressing employment and education topics suitable for diverse audiences. 

  • Strong computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office suite, databases, email, social media pages). 

  • Able to follow reporting guidelines and meet KPI’s. 

Required: Graduate Certificate in Careers Education & Development / Undergraduate Degree in related discipline.
