The Caretaker is responsible for the general upkeep, minor repairs and ongoing maintenance and of 1st Stop Woodlawn and Bongard House.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Responsible for general upkeep and minor repairs and to all areas of building and building equipment including, minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting;

·        Responsible for unit roll overs including cleaning, painting and repairs;

·        Maintains cleaning and other building equipment and tools are in good working order and reports necessary repairs to manager;

·        Checks the fire panel, testing the fire pump, emergency generator and all egress doors;

·        Ensures the refrigeration units, food-handling units and cooling water supply are at the correct temperature and pressure on a daily basis;

·        Moves equipment, supplies and furniture as required;

·        Janitorial duties including some cleaning and disposal of refuse, litter, recycling, and garbage;

·        Maintains inventory of maintenance equipment and supplies;

·        Monitors all parking areas and roadways to ensure fire routes are clear and accessible;

·        Ensures appropriate safety supplies, equipment, tools and materials are on site and are used as appropriately;

·        Performs all tasks within WHMIS and WSIB requirements and participates in health and safety training as required

·        Ensures the adherence to all building codes and by laws;

·        Ensures that the health and safety guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of YWCA Toronto.

QUALIFICATIONS

·        A generalized education at the high school level with technical training in electrical, plumbing or building maintenance (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);

·        3-5 years’ experience in the field;

·        Ability to lift 25 kilograms; physically capable of extended periods of physical exertion, including frequent periods of standing, bending or lifting;

·        Knowledge of repair methods and repair technology, including carpentry, drywall, and minor plumbing;

·        Knowledge of cleaning products and their use;

·        Experience operating buffers, steam cleaners, power washing machinery, wet and dry vacuums, floor strippers and other equipment such as snow blowers, garbage machinery;

·        Basic computer skills for Dayforce entries, keeping inventory records, and use of internet and email;

·        Experience using a computerized maintenance management software;

·        WHMIS certificate;

·        Completion of the Toronto shelter standards training;

·        Experience working in a residential setting;

·        Ability to interact in a respectful and professional manner with women, girls and gender diverse people within shelter and housing environments;

·        A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle is an asset.
