The Carnivore Coexistence Program Associate will work to advance human-carnivore conflict prevention and coexistence in west-central Montana. In this role, the PA will work independently and with other staff to promote and cultivate the use of nonlethal human-bear conflict prevention tools by landowners, homeowners, and recreators; market P&C’s cost-share program, create and distribute educational materials; coordinate relevant events; track large carnivore policy developments (state and national); coordinate projects with agencies, community groups, landowners, and businesses (infrastructure, Bear Smart work, etc.); deliver informational and educational presentations; and work with other staff to refine and disseminate messaging in support of coexistence across the project area and Montana. The PA will stay abreast of news and developments and conservation needs relative to grizzly bears and other carnivores – consistent with P&C’s mission and strategic plan. The PA will also support P&C’s field specialists and the ED in their program work.
This position is primarily focused on bear, in particularly grizzly bear, coexistence and conservation. The Associate will also work on black bear, wolf, and mountain lion conflict prevention and coexistence.

Job Details
The position is located in Helena, MT, and the successful candidate must work out of a home office. The position is permanent and exempt, and will have a one-year probationary period. The starting salary is $50,000-$54,000 plus signing bonus. The job can be 0.80 FTE (at proportional salary) or full-time. Benefits include generous PTO (vacation, sick time, holidays, and winter break), a BCBS group health plan with 75% of premiums paid, a retirement plan match, a computer benefit, home office stipend, and a fully paid vision/dental plan. We aim to start the Program Associate on or before September 1, 2026.
