About the role

This Case Advisor role partners closely with child protection to uphold the rights and best interests of Aboriginal children involved in child protection cases. The advisor will engage with local child protection staff, collaborate with families where abuse or neglect is alleged, and ensure that an Aboriginal perspective is integral to case planning, assessments, and decision-making.

Additionally, the role supports child protection in identifying and connecting with Aboriginal family members who can assist the child and family, builds and maintains external relationships for the benefit of the child, and fulfills reporting requirements, including case notes and file management.

About You

This role requires a strong commitment to VACCA’s values and leadership in promoting them. It demands a deep understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures, along with knowledge of the key issues affecting Aboriginal communities.

The role involves significant experience working with Aboriginal families and children, understanding the factors leading to Child Protection involvement, and collaborating closely with Child Protection and other services to advocate for the best interests of children.

It also requires the ability to assess risks within a cultural framework, work independently and in small teams, and manage administrative tasks, including case notes, file maintenance, and data recording, while effectively prioritising work in a high-pressure environment.

  • A relevant qualification in Social Work, Community Services or similar discipline/framework with demonstrated industry experience in working with Aboriginal families in community.
  • Experience working in the community services sector.
  • Requirements: Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.
