Medecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian healthcare organization whose French branch is governed by French Law of 01/07/1901 and has its registered headquarters in Paris. MdM gathers a network of 17 national counterparts over Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The network currently operates in over 74 countries worldwide, providing emergency and long-term medical care to the world’s most vulnerable populations, in partnership with local organizations. In the Middle East, MdM has over 17 years of experience running health programs in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), and Türkiye. MdM advocates to end health inequities in the realms of sexual and reproductive health and right (SRHR), mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), harm reduction, and migration rights.

Context:

In the framework of our new program on Harm Reduction for drug users, we are looking for a social worker-Case manager for our community center in Baghdad. Experience with drug users a must. 

 Main Mission:

  • To advise, inform and guide people in vulnerable situations.
  • To develop individualised support, promoting individual autonomy.
  • To set up appropriate social, psycho-social, medical, and/or mental health support.
  • To follow up beneficiaries case by case

Main activities:

  • Meeting with and interviewing people. Assessing needs and social, psycho-social, medical, and/or mental health situations
  • Informing, advising, and referring people towards internal services or partner, public or NGO facilities
  • Preparing and monitoring cases
  • Possibly, physically accompanying people to mainstream facilities
  • Supporting individuals preparing specific applications (requesting financial assistance, claiming their rights, etc.). Monitoring these cases and getting back in touch with relevant bodies where necessary
  • Contributing towards community outreach activities
  • Participating in working meetings and coordinate with partner structures
  • Participating in capacity-building work with partners, peer workers, community relays
  • Drafting activity reports including regular data collection
  • Monitoring dysfunctions that are encountered, contributing to the preparation of documents for consolidated communication to the relevant persons
  • Participating in advocacy work

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Main skills:

  • Identify and assess needs and evaluate/diagnose a social, psycho-social, medical, and/or mental health situation Conduct individual interviews
  • Assess the impact of actions and adjust them accordingly

  • Identify obstacles and challenges facing the various actors involved

  • Work in a network and in a multidisciplinary team (research and mobilise resources, coordinate and connect support work in collaboration with different actors)

  • Prioritise cases according to deadlines and situations

  • Be flexible and adaptable; understand and accept changes in the environment regarding people, tasks, work decisions, policies, etc.

  • Write professional documents, organise, classify, communicate Speak the language of the target audience

  • Use distancing techniques

  • Negotiate for people with NGOs, institutions, and public services

Languages

  • English conversational level/intermediate
  • Arabic native

Education & Experience: 

  • Level III/Bachelor degree in case management (social, psycho-social, medical, or mental health)
  • One to two years’ experience in individual support and case management is required

How To Apply

Conditions of the position: 

  • Technical supervisor: Medical Advisor. Functional manager: Coordination/Program assistant
  • This position will be based in Baghdad with regular field visits all around the city.
  • The candidate should embrace MdM values and be able to work with vulnerable groups.
  • Salary: monthly gross: IQD 1733550 (Cat 3a) + Health insurance + food and transport allowance + 13th
  • Duration: 6 months renewable.
  • Starting date: 1st of September 2024
  • Status: national position, only candidate able to work and live in Federal Iraq and located in Baghdad region will be envisaged.
