North Burnett Community Service (NBCS) is seeking an experienced and passionate Community Service/Development professional to join our team as the Centre Manager.

NBCS is a not-for-profit, locally owned and operated community organisation, founded in 1995. The NBCS was started to meet local need and support individuals and families to access services and activities that were locally driven and created. Over time the Service has expanded its scope to ensure a broad range of programs and services are available to community members and prides itself on ensuring services are flexible, accessible and meet the changing needs of the community.

NBCS provides a range of services including a Neighbourhood Centre, counselling services and peer support groups, Services Australia Agent, disaster recovery and resilience building, the Queensland Government Agency Program (QGAP), information and referral, Neighbourhood Centre, Patient Transport and a range of local community groups, activities and events. NBCS also has a network of volunteers which are critical to our ability to meet the needs of our community.

About the role:

  • Permanent Part-time 56-68 hours per fortnight
  • SCHADS Award, Salary Sacrifice available
  • The position is based in Mundubbera with offices also located in both Gayndah and Eidsvold

NBCS has been supporting people in the North Burnett Region for over 20 years, the Centre Manager is able to play an integral role in this via the promotion of innovative, strengths based and flexible service delivery and community engagement.

The role will coordinate the service delivery and operations of North Burnett Community Service including managing and supporting the staff and volunteers.

The role will apply contemporary community development principles to foster partnership and collaboration opportunities within the organisation, as well as with external services, stakeholders, and communities contributing to better connected, inclusive and resilient communities.

The North Burnett Community Service currently delivers a range of Commonwealth and Queensland Government funded programs, working collaboratively with other service providers, peer and community networks.

It is imperative that the successful applicant have exceptional communication skills and the ability and willingness to work collaboratively with the Board and lead a team with a client centred focus.

The Manager will:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the centre, including development and implementation of processes and systems.
  • Provide input and guidance to strategic and operational planning, community development, and service delivery.
  • Complete required reporting and monitor progress against objectives.
  • Provide supervision and support to staff and volunteers
  • Promote integration and collaboration across all programs and services.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Lead or contribute to key community development projects and framework development.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication and organisational skills providing leadership, guidance and support to the team.

A knowledge of Government funded community based programs will be favourably considered.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience in coordinating programs and teams that deliver evidenced-based events, projects or resources through a strengths-based, community development framework.
  2. Demonstrated experience supervising staff and volunteers across multiple sites.
  3. Demonstrated success in designing, delivering and evaluating community development activities.
  4. Demonstrated success in building positive relationships and working in partnerships with clients, service providers, staff, volunteers, senior management, board and key government and elected officials.
  5. Highly developed decision making, negotiation, analytical, computer and administrative skills.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to the principles of social justice, advocacy and self-determination.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary challenges, needs, issues and sensibilities of all people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), LGBTIQA+ backgrounds and other vulnerable population groups

Applicants must have the right to work in Australia, have a current drivers licence and blue card and be willing to undergo a police check.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Highly Regarded: Degree qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Social Sciences or Human Services. Where applicable, the ability to obtain registration/membership via the appropriate professional body is required.
  • Minimum: Diploma in Community Services or Community Development with demonstrated experience in a similar role for minimum of 2 years.
  • Experience: Workplace experience in a similar role for minimum of 2 years
