Your brief is to drive Omico’s success through the effective delivery of its landmark PrOSPeCT initiative, and to develop a sustainable business model powered by patient-centred research collaborations.

You combine a passion for medical research with the commercial and business acumen to capitalise on opportunities for new treatment paradigms through public/private partnerships.

Omico has been highly successful since its formation in 2018 and it has recently received both Government and Industry support for its $193 million PrOSPeCT Project which will significantly increase its research output and quadruple its patient numbers . Importantly, PrOSPeCT will also see Omico expand its industry impact through its facilitation of growth in the Australian Clinical Trials Industry.

The Founder and current CEO of Omico, Professor David Thomas, has recently been made Head of The Centre for Molecular Oncology at The University of New South Wales and, as a consequence, Omico now seeks to appoint a full–time Chief Executive Officer to lead its current activities and ensure its ongoing success.

Following the CEO’s appointment, Professor Thomas will remain on Omico’s Executive Management Team as Chief ScienLfic and Strategy Officer, with responsibility for Omico’s expanded research program and industry relationships.

The Role

As Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for providing visionary leadership for all aspects of Omico’s activities including the successful delivery of its operational and contractual objectives, its ongoing growth, future sustainability, and its strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Meet all statutory, regulatory and integrity requirements including, in particular, the work, health and safety of employees and collaborators. Stay updated with clinical research regulations, guidelines and ethical standards.
  2. Work with the Board of Directors and Executive Management team to articulate and communicate a compelling vision and strategic direction.
  3. Recruit and build a high performing management team. Provide effective leadership to ensure team cohesion and high-functioning communication and decision making. Foster and sustain a company culture that will attract, develop and retain key people.
  4. Deliver Omico’s strategic and contractual objectives including its financial performance. Ensure the budgeting and financial reporting systems are geared to optimise resource allocation and manage risk.
  5. Lead and guide the Executive Management Team on a broad range of operational, strategic and tactical issues impacting the business.
  6. Serve as a highly visible external leader and key spokesperson for Omico, building brand awareness.
  7. Drive operational excellence within Omico to enhance efficiency including project management, and quality assurance. Ensure adoption of new technologies to maintain competitive advantage.
  8. Lead and support effective business development and customer satisfaction.
  9. Communicate and collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders including key opinion leaders, governments, employees, customers, business partners, and Board members to engender trust and credibility.

Essential Criteria

  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills. A collaborative and inspiring team leader. An impactful representative for Omico with its many stakeholders. Embodies integrity and Omico’s values. Sets a positive organisational culture.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to articulate a compelling vision and lead teams across organisational boundaries.
  • Understanding of Omico’s business model including a sufficient understanding of its scientific and clinical underpinnings. Likely to have been a proven senior executive in the life-sciences industry with a minimum of 15 years’ experience and established industry and government networks. Specific senior leadership experience in a Clinical Research Organisation would be highly regarded.
  • Experience in start-up and high-growth businesses will be a distinct advantage.
  • Deep understanding and experience of managing complex projects and a track record of delivering agreed outcomes.
  • Entrepreneurial and strategic experience to guide Omico’s future growth and sustainability.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and move forward. A good listener and decisive.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex and rapidly changing environments.
  • Financial literacy, commercial acumen and significant P&L and risk management experience.
  • Demonstrated success in business development.
  • Understanding of, and track record of, supporting good governance.
  • Advanced degree in Business, Lifesciences, or related field.
