POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1.Education/Credentials/License/Certifications and Work Experience:
Formal Education (Check one level only):
High School Diploma preferred
X High School Diploma with CNA Certification Classes
Two Year College Degree
Four Year College Degree (preferred)
Graduate Degree
Certification/Licensure:
- Current Florida State CNA Certification
- Basic Life Support Certification
Work Experience:
- At least 6 months experience in an acute care facility preferred
- At least one year total experience preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology procedures is essential

- Good visual acuity needed to read written, typed and online charts, treatment plans, and policy and procedure manuals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Performs functions as a professional member of the organization, including but not limited to the following)
- Prepares patients’ rooms for admission by setting up the items needed by the new patient.
- Accompanies new patients to their rooms and orients them to the room, the bedside console, lights, bed controls and the call light system.
- Assists the patients with dressing and undressing, placing the patient’s belongings and cloth in appropriate places.
- Provides assistance with the following items: bathing, oral hygiene, changing bed linen, evening care and other items as requested by the patient.
- Prepares patients for meals, assuring that the appropriate tray is provided to the patient and assists with feedings as needed.
- Records the intake.
- Assists with positioning the patients, lifting and turning the patients and ambulating the patients as needed.
- Takes and records heights and weights on new admissions as needed or as ordered.
- Takes and records the patients’ vital signs and notifies the nurse immediately of any abnormal results.
- Makes hourly rounds on patients, anticipates patients’ needs and answers/responds to patient call lights in a timely manner.
- Assists patients with toileting and records the output.
- Collects specimens as ordered and transports to the lab.
- Immediately reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient immediately to the nurse on duty.
- Assists in the discharge process by dressing the patient and packing their belongings as necessary.
- Transports discharged patients to the lobby and assists them into their vehicle.
- Provides post mortem care and assists in transporting the patient to the morgue when necessary. Follows proper isolation techniques.
- Provides range of motion exercises according to standards.
- Performs blood glucose finger sticks and reports the results to the nurse immediately.
- Consistently supports the philosophy of service excellence on a daily basis.
- Consistently initiates positive communication with the patients, family members, nurses and physicians in a courteous manner.
- Functions as a member of the team by assisting co-workers as needed.
- Acknowledges and responds tactfully to all requests.
- Ensure appropriate resources, equipment and supplies are available.
- Consistently utilize universal precautions and environmental safety guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance programs.
- Comply with established measures for infection control, OSHA and AHCA regulations and risk management.
- Utilize time constructively and in an organized manner to accomplish assigned responsibilities.
- Follow facility, departmental and personnel policies and procedures.
- Comply with the employee Code of Ethics and Standards of Behavior.
- Attend mandatory educational programs and annual in-services.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
Meets hospital-wide requirements by submitting annual tuberculin test and any other medical required for job classification and attends necessary in-service/education programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Included but not limited to the following)
Spends 80% of the shift walking or standing. Spends 20% of the shift sitting. The position requires considerable amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds. This work may involve, but is not limited to lifting, carrying, pushing, or repositioning of objects, pieces of equipment, or patients. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance. Individual must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend in order for him/her to retrieve dropped items, read gauges and meters, or otherwise assess or retrieve information from at or above floor level. Must be able to visualize and read gauges, meters, monitors and the necessary items to provide safe patient care This individual must be able to maneuver quickly throughout the hospital corridors, stairways, and exam rooms in response to patient emergencies, and code requirement. In the event of building evacuation, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety. Interpretation of the environment requires visual or auditory skills.
