Job Purpose
The MVLS Centre of Excellence for Trials Collaboration (CETC) brings together specialist multidisciplinary expertise from across the University, NHS and other external stakeholders to concentrate and augment the design and delivery of nationally and internationally relevant and innovative projects/trials (

Working closely with the Centre Manager, the Co-Directors and the Head of Research Regulation and Compliance, the CETC Innovation Start-Up Manager will support researchers across a range of innovative grant-funded projects/trials to enable and empower our researchers to deliver research with speed and agility, respond to rapidly changing environments and opportunities, and ultimately bring innovative research to Glasgow and the wider community (

). This will include activities such as protocol development, study documentation preparation, Interactive Research Application System (IRAS) application preparation, and assisting in obtaining study-specific regulatory and ethical approvals.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide start-up coordination support and management to enable the efficient delivery of innovative research projects/trials.
2. Lead on the delivery of strategically important innovation research projects, including developing strong relationships and collaborations between a wide range of external and internal stakeholders. Secure stakeholders input and manage conflicting priorities, using judgement and discretion.
3. Provide project management/coordination advice and expertise to researchers, assisting with strategic projects/trials including identification, assessment and active management of risks associated with project initiation.
4. Manage multiple innovation research projects/trials from a range of funding sources during the start-up phase, providing comprehensive support to researchers including (but not limited to) planning and monitoring of progress against targets for delivery of expected outputs and outcomes.
5. Provide advice and support on the delivery of trial activities such as protocol development, study documentation preparation, IRAS completion, ethics and regulatory submissions, and applications for NHS R&I management approvals.
6. Contribute to CETC capacity building by collating best practice research project/trial management and delivery tools to evidence and inform the use of innovative trial methodologies.
7. Provide excellent client service to research teams ensuring CETC project/trial coordination/ management is appropriately considered in future grant applications.
8. Lead and participate in departmental meetings, consulting with external and internal stakeholders as required.
9. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in trial design and methodologies and engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
10. To provide support to researchers submitting commercial/industrial trial research proposals, enabling expansion of expertise in innovation and commercial project/trials delivery.
11. To collaborate with University teams working to build and develop external collaborations with the industry and public sector to support growth of industrial/commercial opportunities.
12. Undertake any other relevant duties to support seamless operations of the Centre of Excellence for Trials Collaboration that are in the scope of research project/trial coordination and management.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, 10, or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent in a subject discipline relevant to the College of MVLS.
A2 Knowledge of research project/trial management and delivery to a level that allows informed decision-making.
A3 Knowledge of the regulatory framework governing research involving humans.
A4 Working knowledge of the Integrated Research Application System.
A5 Understanding of UK, EU, and international data protection legislation.
Desirable:
B1 Professional qualification in a relevant subject area.
B2 Good knowledge of the UK/Scotland trial landscape, including academic and commercial research.
B3 Knowledge and working understanding of the Higher Education sector, ideally including medical, veterinary, and life sciences.
B4 Working knowledge of NHS research support services and organisations including Safe Havens and Biorepositories and their operational procedures.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Demonstrable, structured approach to project/trial management including reporting skills.
C2 Excellent negotiating skills combined with relationship-building skills at organisational and senior levels.
C3 Experience and ability to work across a range of collaborating organisations from academia, the NHS or other public bodies, and/or commercial companies.

Experience
Essential:
E1 Managing and/or delivering health related projects/trials.
E2 Engaging and working with the research teams and ensuring delivery of projects to achieve key targets.
E3 Providing high calibre professional services within a complex multi-stakeholder profile context.
E4 Evidence of planning, managing, and delivering research projects in a health research environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 8, £48,350 – £56,021 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week), and has funding until 1 May 2026 in the first instance.
