UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.
Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.
And we never give up.
For every child, Commitment
The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does in programmes, in advocacy and in operations.
Social policy work is of paramount importance to UNICEF, particularly in the East Asia and Pacific region, where diverse socio-economic landscapes pose unique challenges and opportunities for children’s welfare. In addressing these challenges, UNICEF focuses on four main areas: social protection, public finance, child poverty, and local governance. These pillars form the foundation of our efforts to ensure that every child has access to basic services, protection, and opportunities for development, irrespective of their socio-economic background.
Amidst this broad spectrum of social policy work, UNICEF has identified the need to make cities more conducive to the well-being and development of children. Urban areas are growing at an unprecedented rate, bringing both opportunities and challenges for children living in these environments. As such, the concept of Child-Friendly Cities has emerged as a critical area of focus. This initiative aims to harness urban development for the benefit of all citizens, especially children, making urban areas safer, more inclusive, and responsive to children’s needs.
