Job Title: Chapter Director
Department: Wyoming Chapter
Location: Flexible within Wyoming. The position requires the ability to travel.
Reports To: Deputy Regional Field Director (supervisor) and Wyoming Chapter Board
Supervises: Wyoming Chapter staff
Context: At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of interdependence. Together, we remain committed to protect and sustain a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel injustice, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our future. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club has close to 800 staff across the country and a network of 64 local chapters that are led and fueled by thousands of volunteers. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with three labor unions representing more than half of our employees.
Scope: Sierra Club Wyoming has been a leader in our state since 1975, working to protect our environment, and today represents 3,500 Sierra Club members and supporters across the state. Our Wyoming-based staff of five works cooperatively as a fully integrated team with our volunteer activists and grassroots supporters across the state; a diverse array of partners; and other regional and national Sierra Club staff. Our highest conservation priorities are to slow climate change and minimize its most harmful impacts by ending fossil fuel production on public land and transitioning to clean energy; to protect our remaining undeveloped wild landscapes; to protect healthy and free-ranging wildlife; and to maintain high-quality, connected wildlife habitats. All aspects of this work are deeply grounded in a commitment to deepening and evolving understandings of systems of oppression and examining relationships to privilege and power.
The Director of the Wyoming Chapter will lead the design and implementation of priority campaigns and programs adopted by the Wyoming Chapter Board; support the Board and volunteer committees; manage Chapter staff; manage Chapter finances; oversee fundraising; and support grassroots outreach and organizational power building. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work.
