Position description

The Chief Digital and IT Transformation Officer (CDxO) works closely with the executive team and, in alignment with our new strategic plan to develop a clear and compelling IT/Digital strategy, working cross-functionally to develop a detailed transformation IT roadmap with an aligned IT organizational model, and implement innovative digital solutions. The CDxO also provides leadership for the overall IT business continuity and systems improvement to ensure organization-wide operations are aligned with FHI360’s new organizational strategy, mission, and vision.

Key elements of the role include planning, building, and sustaining streamlined systems and updated processes to optimize service delivery and enable operational efficiency and effectiveness. The CDxO manages a team of 95 with a current non-optimized application portfolio of over 190. The successful candidate will engage with senior and departmental leadership to identify the highest-impact problems and shape and scope initiatives across interdependent organizational needs with an eye on business value and impact. The candidate will also provide strategic and operational direction for planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s information technology data, applications, and infrastructure. Participate in the investigation, selection, and operation of information systems. Oversee the IT project portfolio and budgets.

Accountabilities

Strategy and Execution:

  • Work closely with the executive leadership team to set the strategy, build the roadmap for continuous digital transformation, and identify opportunities to improve our global digital and IT services.

  • Work cross-functionally to reimagine, reengineer, implement, and manage the organization’s overall system processes, including IT, in alignment with organizational strategy, values, business objectives, and priorities.

  • Provide guidance on prioritization, and oversee the implementation of prioritized projects, and ensure methods, and processes are in place to iterate through a continuous improvement model.

  • Implement an environment of innovation, best and next practices, ensuring the use of technologies for the benefit of stakeholders. Maintain strong knowledge of emerging external trends and technological advancements that are realistic to consider.

  • Lead the organization in maximizing operational excellence opportunities through continuity, risk assessment, and shaping the skills, processes, people, and tools we need to deliver the business objectives.

  • Create and imbed a prioritization approach to develop a roadmap for innovation with the relevant processes, tools, and metrics to support business objectives and new growth opportunities.

  • Identify potential issues that may arise during implementation processes and develop contingencies to address issues before they become problems.

  • Work with internal stakeholders to problem solve, ensuring that solutions deliver and enhance their experience.

  • Work with procurement on relevant digital solutions and services with external vendors, including assisting in negotiating costs, contracts, services, etc.

  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency.

  • Oversee quality assurance and data protection processes.

  • Communicate overall business continuity and improvement strategy to internal and external stakeholders/partners.

Team Leadership:

  • Develop and deploy the strategic Digital and IT vision across IT and the organization.

  • Lead the IT team that project manages and delivers operational solutions using various techniques to responsively and effectively pilot and successfully implement the platforms.

  • Effectively lead and manage the IT teams, including goal setting and performance management, and ensure team engagement.

  • Provides clarity and consistency for prioritization and delivery of IT functions, tools, and technologies.

  • Exercises own judgment to set goals and determine strategies to achieve results that align with organizational goals.

  • Serves on various committees and other leadership teams as needed to provide IT expertise that align to the strategic goals of the organization.

  • Act as coach/mentor to team members and support skills development.

  • Highly developed consultative, facilitative, project management, and process improvement skills leveraging agile methodologies.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing senior leaders and a diverse group of stakeholders.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts and technologies to a myriad of stakeholders at various levels.

  • Experience implementing enterprise-wide projects and prioritizing action with equity and inclusion at the center of all decision-making.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures, technical standards, methods, and priorities.

  • Consults with senior management on IT plans, projects, performance, training, and budgets to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the IT department.

  • Identifies project priorities and introduces new innovations, technologies, and methods to improve quality and processes.

  • Coordinates with other functional areas to ensure information systems are unified and able to collect, synthesize, analyze, report, and utilize information to advance the mission of the organization.

Applied Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with systems implementation, infrastructure development, and management in IT operations.

  • Proven track record in a senior management position focused on transformation and business continuity.

  • A highly effective change agent who engages with senior stakeholders to deliver the business continuity and improvement plans across the organization in business terms.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating organizational transformation solutions and delivering large-scale change that added measurable value to the organization. 

  • Has developed comprehensive IT strategies in coordination with functional departments.

  • Project Management, Change Management, and/or Process improvement experience; a proven track record in delivering complex projects is paramount. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to influence, motivates, negotiates, and collaborates well with others.

Supervision Given/Received

  • Directly responsible for leading managers of the division and indirectly responsible for all employees within the division.

  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technologies, or Related Field.

Certifications

  • Certification in IT service management

We welcome candidates with other relevant certifications or their international equivalents.

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with management in information systems and project management.

  • Demonstrated experience with development, installation, and maintenance of information systems.

  • Experience developing an IT and digital strategy for an organization.

  • Experience leading an organization through an IT transformation.

  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

  • Prior work experience in an impact organization highly preferred.

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidates FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget. 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $290,000 – $315,000
