Reporting to: Boccia England Board
Direct reports: Head of Sport and Head of OperationsPurpose of the Job: To deliver the key elements of the 2022-2032 strategy for Boccia in England, namely: implementing a nationwide infrastructure for the boccia community, increased public awareness of Boccia and ensuring that every child / young person with a disability has the chance to play Boccia.In order to achieve this, it is vital the CEO drives the development and sustainability of the organisation, through strong income growth, innovation, partnerships, the development of everyone involved and effective monitoring and evaluation.Hours worked: Full-time, 35 hours per week. This role will include travelling and some unsocial hours.Accountabilities and ObjectivesLeadership – Provide strong leadership to the people involved in our sport and the organisation to effectively deliver the 2022-2032 Strategy.
- Ensure that the principles of Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are at the heart of all we do.
- Lead and grow a talented and passionate team of people, staff, volunteers and players to deliver and enjoy the sport of Boccia.
- Manage and grow the financial wellbeing or the organisation and sport.
- Build effective and meaningful partnerships with key organisations to move our sport and organisation forward.
- Drive the delivery of the strategic plan ensuring we deliver against the goals we have set.
- Manage a variety of key stakeholders to ensure Boccia in England and the sport is placed favourably in the sector.
- Work with the board of directors to seek advice and guidance where necessary as well as keeping them up to date with progress.
People Management- Ensure the effective leadership, management and supervision of all staff and volunteers and upward reporting to the board
- Inspiring, supporting and developing the staff of Boccia England to excel in all they do.
- Oversee the culture within Boccia England.
- Developing and maintaining key stakeholder groups ensuring feedback and ‘buy in’ from the wider Boccia community.
- Development of a positive culture that reflects the values outlined in our strategic plan.
- Ensure an effective performance management framework, setting and assessing achievement against targets for all staff and reporting as required.
Strategic thinking and decision making – Ensure the organisation remains ‘Fit for Purpose’ and effectively delivers quality services to meet the required standards agreed with funders and within the resources available.
- Inform and advise on the formulation of policies and strategies to ensure success.
- Ensure that the strategic objectives are translated into an annual delivery or operational plan that sets the priorities for the organisation and its staff.
- Lead in the management of change, ensuring that the organisation appropriately develops to meet future needs and challenges for boccia participants.
- Service and support the Board and sub-committees and working groups, advising the Trustees on legal requirements, policy issues and priorities related to the general work of Boccia England, its internal structure and management.
- Monitor and report regularly to the Board on progress against goals and objectives, using relevant and timely performance measures.
Resource development and management – Work with the Board to develop and implement a financial strategy that aims to secure a sustainable future for the organisation, in accordance with Board policy and charity legislation
- Prepare the budget for Board approval, manage financial resources effectively and provide regular financial performance reports to the Board and relevant Committees.
- Develop an effective approach to securing income through marketing, developing strategic partnerships, grants, fund-raising and sponsorship.
- Develop a balanced approach in the development and growth of restricted and unrestricted income.
- Negotiation of funding for specific services and activities with Sport England and other charitable organisations.
- Submission and negotiation of service tenders/proposals.
- Secure and manage the organisation’s resources and ensure compliance with legal requirements and good practice in all aspects of Boccia England’s work
- Develop and maintain an effective approach to risk assessment and management, reporting regularly to the Board and relevant Committees.
- Ensure systems are in place, to support, monitor and develop services to support the needs of participants and members that are in line with good practice and meet appropriate standards.
- Oversee the maintenance of an efficient office base, managing premises and equipment owned or used by the organisation in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and volunteers.
Marketing and Communications – Lead the marketing strategy to raise the profile of our sport and organisation.
- Using communications to showcase the virtues of the sport, the hard work of our boccia community and the stories that inspire further investment, support and participation in Boccia.
- Develop effective and timely promotion and communications to enable stakeholders to be informed of relevant developments and decisions, including seeking feedback to better inform our decision making.
- Develop and maintain an effective approach to marketing the growth of and wider participation in Boccia.
Partnership Development – Develop strategic partnerships which promote the needs and issues of Boccia athletes and the work of Boccia England, positioning the organisation as the key agency promoting and delivering boccia throughout England.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with key partners.
- Work in partnership and collaboration with other agencies, including central and local government, statutory agencies, commercial and voluntary bodies to actively promote the development of boccia, influence policies and represent Boccia England.
- Ensure effective and productive relationships with the Home Countries boccia organisations, the Great Britain Boccia Federation and the Boccia International Sports Federation (BISFed), ensuring that Boccia England is an active and influential member of those organisations.
