The role
As CEO, you’ll lead and guide the team via strategic initiatives to achieve VMIAC’s vision, ensuring long-term sustainability. Your role will involve:
- Championing the rights and needs of mental health consumers.
- Elevating team performance through effective leadership, cultivating a collaborative culture whilst steering operational excellence to drive impactful change.
- Meeting our strategic directions through membership-informed work with new and existing sector partnerships and fostering connections with government stakeholders.
- Ensuring VMIAC contributes to growing consumer perspective knowledge and has well-articulated position papers on what matters most to our consumer community.
- Working effectively with the Committee of Management (CoM) and its sub-committees and in support of good governance by ensuring timely, accurate reporting, and providing balanced and informed advice.
- Driving strategic communications, including marketing, media and public relations efforts to amplify VMIAC’s strategic directions and messages.
About you
You will identify as having experience of mental health issues or distress – as a consumer and will have firsthand experience navigating the mental health system.
This lived experience, as well as your understanding of the consumer discipline and movement, provides you with invaluable insight and strategic acumen to meet the needs of mental health consumers.
To be successful in the role of CEO at VMIAC you will need to bring:
- Consumer leadership experience and an understanding of consumer perspective and discipline work, including a keen interest in deepening this.
- An understanding of the importance of individual and systemic advocacy.
- A strategic mindset capable of positioning VMIAC to meet its strategic directions.
- Strong decision-making abilities and an ability to inspire others to achieve shared goals.
- Demonstrated resilience and adaptability in navigating dynamic and potentially challenging relationships.
- Experience in leading and managing teams to meet deliverables within funding agreements.
- Understanding of the importance of culture in an organisation and the mechanisms to work with the challenges and opportunities in a changing environment.
- Proven expertise in risk management, compliance and financial management; including demonstrated proficiency in overseeing budgets of significant scale and timely delivery on short and longer-term funding contracts.
