Chief Medical Officer – NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board

Job title:

Chief Medical Officer – NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board

Company

Odgers Berndtson

Job description

The 10 year shared vision of our integrated care system, Integrated Care Northamptonshire, is that we want to work better together to make Northamptonshire a place where people are active, confident and empowered to take personal responsibility for good health and wellbeing, with quality integrated support and services available for them when they need help. This vision is underpinned by our aims to improve outcomes in population health and healthcare, tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience and access, enhance productivity and value for money, and help the NHS support broader social and economic development.

Northamptonshire is a predominantly rural county but nearly 70% of its 785,200 residents – and 813,203 patients registered with our GP practices – live in towns and urban areas. Northampton is our county town and largest urban area and is in the West Northamptonshire Council area alongside Daventry, Towcester and Brackley. Corby, Wellingborough, Kettering and Rushden are the main towns in the North Northamptonshire Council area. In the last 10 years the population of Northamptonshire has grown by over 92,000, an increase of 13.5%. This is higher than the overall increase for England (6.6%) and among the highest rate of growth in the Midlands.

Like many areas, Northamptonshire faces a number of challenges that continue to place pressure on our county’s local authorities, health and care services. We face significant demand from our growing older population and working age adults, as well as our children population. These are happening at a time when operating cost pressures are high, with utility costs rising and people feeling the impact of the rising cost of living. It is clear that organisations, and their services, must adapt to ensure that they meet the challenges ahead. We know that through shared working and community involvement, we have the best opportunity to respond to these challenges.

There has now arisen the opportunity to join the Executive team of the ICB in the vitally important role of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The Chief Medical Officer will have an influential executive role and shared accountability for the development and delivery of the long-term clinical strategy of the ICB, ensuring this reflects and integrates the strategies of all relevant partner organisations within the ICS. With the Chief Nursing Officer, the Chief Medical Officer will lead on overseeing quality of health services within the ICS including sharing intelligence and working with other key partners and regulators across and outside their system to improve quality of care and outcomes. They will be responsible for building partnerships and collaborating with provider collaboratives, public health, local government, other partners, and local people to deliver better access, improvements in life outcomes and reductions in health inequity. We are seeking a medical leader with a compassionate leadership style, with board or system leadership health care experience, and experience of providing clinical leadership, mentorship, and professional development at a very senior level with demonstrable outcomes.

The successful candidate will also bring experience of leading complex quality improvement or clinical change and digital transformation at significant scale.

Inclusion is central to our values. We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and heard with a supportive culture built on the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion. We know that diverse teams help foster creativity and innovation and we value the benefits of having a diverse workforce that is representative of the communities we service. We believe in providing equal opportunities for all, irrespective of background, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or abilities and are committed to advancing equality of opportunity and eliminating unlawful discrimination.

Closing date for applications is Tuesday 2nd April 2024. For further information please see the candidate brief below or contact our advisors at Odgers Berndtson on 020 7529 6314.
