UNRWA, the largest United Nations operation in the Middle East with over 30,000 staff working across five areas of operation, is looking for an outstanding Chief of Private Sector Partnerships, to take on one of the most incredible fundraising roles in the world. This might be the job of a lifetime. The Chief Private Sector Partnerships reports to the Director of Partnerships.

Responsibilities

Leads the global business development of private partnerships as per the Private Sector Partnerships strategy, including planning, budgeting and the implementation of activities related to private sector engagements/fundraising with a focus on digital giving, high value donors and Islamic Philanthropy; seeking and strengthening partnership opportunities and analyzing potential for cooperation; follows up closely on the development of relationships with the identified partners. Is responsible for the results-based management of the Private Sector Partnerships Division continual development, primarily based on outreach and fundraising strategies targeting private sector partners, including high net worth individuals/high value donors, private foundations, and corporations to attract wider support (financial and non-financial) for the work of UNRWA. Provides expert advice for the development of Private Sector Partnerships within a specific region, in close cooperation with relevant colleagues in the Public Partnerships division, and co-leads on. Manages and liaises with private sector partners, new and old, including corporate partners, foundations and high net worth individuals, to foster their support and grow these income streams; liaises with internal interlocutors including field offices, HQ departments and representative offices as necessary. Works with UNRWA’s existing National Committees and other partners on the development of strategies and projects to raise private sector funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations for activities within UNRWA’s budget; oversees the development of sustainable income from other private partnerships funding streams, focusing, especially, on attracting Islamic Giving and digital fundraising; evaluates opportunities to set up new committees. Leads efforts to establish new UNRWA national associations, including through analysis of local contexts and markets, elaboration of investment models, advising the management of the department and the leadership of the Agency in a data-driven approach. Under the guidance of ERCD management, represents the Agency in relevant high-level inter-agency groups working on private partnerships. Develops monitoring systems to measure private sector success; ensures work plans, technical guidelines, methodologies and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are developed, established and implemented as part of the broader fundraising/resource mobilization plans. Oversees the development of proposals and reports with concerned parties. Ensures that the digital fundraising team’s work coheres with that of the broader ERCD; liaises with the Communications division for coherence of messaging, style and branding. Ensures that due diligence on human, financial and operational resources related to private partners is conducted in line with UNRWA’s regulatory framework.

Education

Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in the field of international/public relations, marketing, advertising or business administration and/or management or another related discipline,

Work Experience

At least ten years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in private sector fundraising, including extensive and proven experience working in an international context and delivering fundraising programmes across multiple countries with demonstrable insights into regional and market opportunities and challenges is required. Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of citizenship is required Extensive, recent, and direct experience, within the last five years, and proven track record in private sector fundraising with a comprehensive understanding of all main private sector fundraising techniques (digital, legacies, monthly giving, major donors, corporate and foundations fundraising, events) is required. At least five years of proven managerial experience in leading private sector fundraising teams is required. Experience in giving presentations to high level audiences is required. Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in the field of international/public relations, marketing, advertising or business administration and/or management or another related discipline is required Knowledge of UNRWA’s activities, operations, and services is desirable. Knowledge of Middle Eastern geo-political realities, refugee and displacement issues and their socio-cultural implications is desirable. Familiarity with United Nations administration/financial policies and human resources practices is desirable.

Languages

Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Working knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Type of Contract and duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension. The incumbent may be required to travel whenever requested to meet partners globally and to support the establishment of partnership offices in emerging partnership countries.
