The Chief of YuWaah, leads GenU India and UNICEF’s team support for the formulation of partnerships at the national and state level, leveraging resources, developing shared value partnerships, developing strategy, roadmap, investment planning, monitoring and evaluation. This will strengthen the coordination approach across the Indian education, skills, economic (jobs, entrepreneurship and apprenticeship) and social impact (volunteering, civic engagement, innovations) sectors, plus great linkages between government, private sector, foundations, UN agencies, CSOs, Youth Networks and development actors. Launched by the UN Secretary-General at the 2018 UN General Assembly, and anchored in UNICEF, Generation Unlimited (GenU) is a leading global Public-Private-Youth Partnership, bringing together global organizations and leaders including Heads of State, CEOs, Heads of UN agencies, and civil society champions with young people to co-create and deliver innovative solutions on a global scale. India was selected as one of the front runner countries to roll out the GenU, and thus it was officially launched in India (called YuWaah) by the UNICEF Executive Director in November 2019 through a joint initiative with Government of India and partners. Similar to global set-up, the governance structure of YuWaah includes a Board and supported by a Leadership Council composed of leaders in the public and private sectors committed to bringing transformative change for young people in India.
YuWaah (GenU India) has benefited over 60 million young people ? through opportunities for skills development and employment, career guidance, volunteering and volunteering. Central to YuWaah’s efforts is the willingness and capacity to engage and meaningfully partner engage with young people’s needs, ideas and aspirations.
India’s more than 350 million adolescents and youth (aged 10?24 years) makes up more than one-fourth of the total population. YuWaah’s mission is to ‘Enable India’s adolescents and youth and connect them to aspirational socio-economic opportunities and engage them as active change makers”. GenU works in India towards this mission by focusing on three goals simultaneously in the next 10 years:
How can you make a difference?
Under the general supervision of the Representative, the Chief Youth & Adolescent Development will lead the engagement and empowerment of young people in India, as well as UNICEF India’s contribution to GenU in coordination with the Secretariat, including the establishment of guidance and approaches for YuWaah partnerships. The post will onboard potential interested parties, and upon invitation, guide them in country level development and achievement of YuWaah goals, partnerships, guidance on landscape analysis, strategy, development of roadmaps, portfolios of investment opportunities and leveraging of resources to operationalize GenU partnerships, programmes and initiatives in India. S/he will work with the rest of the country partners and GenU team to identify opportunities for innovations at scale and cross-sector investments, will craft shared value partnerships, and mobilize financial and political capital.
The Chief Youth & Adolescent Development will also work closely with the Government of India, partners including the Board and Leaders Council and internally at UNICEF with programme sections, particularly the Education and Child Protection sections, UNICEF state offices, as well as with cross-cutting areas such as innovation, resource mobilization and communications. This post will deliver a key role in ensuring the youth adolescent engagement in India and achievement of the Country Programme goals.
