Context:
As an important function of its mandate, IOM is the Cluster Lead Agency for Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) for disaster-induced displacement situations under the 2005 IASC Humanitarian Reform. Although the position being advertised is not a CCCM position for a disaster response, IOM’s experience as Cluster Lead for CCCM remains relevant for programming at Camp As Sayliyah (CAS) in Doha, Qatar. In line with the commitments to the global Call to Action on Protection Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Emergencies, IOM has been working to improve GBV prevention and risk mitigation in emergency operations worldwide, including in responses devoted to the Afghan evacuee population.
Under the overall supervision of the Community Engagement Officer, and the direct supervision of the Project Officer (Facility Services), the Project Clerk/Childminder will be responsible for supporting the Community Engagement Unit activities in CAS, Qatar by providing childcare to children of applicants, with the following duties and responsibilities:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Support Community Engagement Unit’s activities by providing childcare services to applicant children while their family member(s) or guardian(s) participate in sports and leisure activities related to the Community Engagement Unit in CAS, QATAR.
2. Provide compassionate, age-appropriate and safety-sensitive childcare to children ranging from infants to age 10.
3. Carry out basic learning activities and games designed for a wide range of ages, including activities and games related to the process of resettlement and life in resettlement countries.
4. Safeguard all materials in designated childcare areas, including toys, books, learning materials, posters and furniture. Alert the Project Assistant, Project Management if childcare materials are damaged or missing, and keep the Project Assistant, Project Management informed of ongoing material needs.
5. Maintain a clean and safe childcare environment by tidying designated childcare areas throughout the workday and assisting cleaning staff members with vacuuming, dusting and removing garbage as needed.
6. Provide applicant children with food and water as needed, ensuring they are consumed in a safe and hygienic manner.
7. As requested during time periods when no childcare is needed, assist CE Unit’s staff members with non-childcare activities such as sports activities, women gym, women center, and other engagement in building-410.
8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Completed High School degree or secondary education from an accredited academic institution with 2 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
- Two years of relevant experience working with children.
- Experience in carrying out daily learning activities for children.
- Experience in maintaining the facilities and equipment in excellent condition.
- A Valid Qatar ID (QID).
- Currently living in Qatar.
Skills
- Excellent computer skills.
- Efficient in using Microsoft Offices (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to organize.
- Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
Languages
REQUIRED
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written)
DESIRABLE
Working knowledge in either Pashto, Dari, Farsi and Arabic is desirable.
