Job Description

The Child Development Facilitators (Caregiver Group) under the supervision of the Child Development Coordinator will be responsible to carry out the day-to-day implementation of activities for parents and caregivers under the ‘LIFT’ (Life in Fullness Together) project in Gaziantep, Kilis and Sanliurfa. The Facilitators will be primarily responsible for sensitising, mobilising and supporting the targeted communities in understanding the project objectives, the scope of services and activities within and outside of the LIFT centres and the criteria to enrol into the project.

The post holders will work directly with male and female caregivers to implement parenting sessions as well as to identify suitable economic employment opportunities for the targeted families. S/he will monitor the level of participation, create an enabling environment for parents/caregivers and children to interact, support to maintain the operation of the LIFT Centres, and report activity updates or challenges to the Child Development Coordinator on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

Implementation of Project Activities

  • Ensure constant and transparent communication and collaboration with relevant community structures and leaders, in order to get buy-in and support for the project activities.
  • Deliver community outreach sessions on the importance of positive parenting and mobilize the participation of parents and caregivers.
  • Providing a safe and supportive place where parents and caregivers can experience new learning opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
  • Implement parenting sessions, awareness events, joint child-parents’/caregivers’ events and information dissemination in a consultative process with participants.
  • Work with the Livelihood & Recovery Technical Adviser and the Child Development Coordinator to define selection criteria for economic empowerment support for parents and caregivers.
  • Facilitate the direct support and/or referrals for Cash for Work, Employment, start-up business, etc. for targeted parents and caregivers in the LIFT project.
  • Makes arrangements for facilities and materials necessary for activities with parents and caregivers in line with the design and work plan of the LIFT project.
  • Promote, support and facilitate parent/caregiver-child relationships and respond to parent, family and community requests for information on parenting and other topics.
  • Identify and refer parents/caregivers and their young children in need of specialized support and other services.
  • Coordinate with other Child Development Facilitators (Adolescent Group and Early Age Group) to ensure linkage between activities.
  • Report to the Project Manager and/or Child Development Coordinator on any issues, challenges or gaps in implementation. The LIFT project is implemented in accordance with the design, requirements and standards of WV.
  • The project addresses the gaps in services and support for parents, caregivers and their children.
  • The economic empowerment activities bring positive protection and psychosocial outcomes for parents and caregivers.
  • Project communities are aware and supportive of the LIFT project activities. There is effective coordination and collaboration with key stakeholders and community structures at the local level.

Assessment, Monitoring and Reporting

  • Collect and organize the data on the activities and ensure that all the relevant reports/forms are duly filled.
  • Develop and use weekly work plan with support from the Child Development Coordinator.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly reports submitted to the Project Manager/Area Manager that include information on project progress, achievements and challenges.
  • Ensure the data collection and storage respect data protection and information sharing protocols, particularly in terms of confidentiality and do no harm principles.
  • Collaborate closely with the MEAL team to monitor activities with defined monitoring tools and document learning and best practices.
  • Support the Child Development Coordinator and the MEAL team to measure the protection and wellbeing outcomes for families as a result of economic empowerment.
  • Project progress and achievements are captured in internal and external reports.
  • Project designs and implementation are adjusted timely and effectively based on the feedback and complaints from children, adolescents and the communities.

Capacity Building & Coordination

  • Share capacity building needs with the Child Development Coordinator and/or the Technical Team.
  • Attend internal and external training on related topics to enhance knowledge on child wellbeing, parenting programming, economic empowerment for male/female caregivers, specific curriculums and other thematic areas.
  • Participate in internal meetings and coordinate with other programme/sector teams.
  • Adhere to WV Child and Adult Safeguarding policy and standards.
  • Adhere to WV accountability standards. • Project staff have improved knowledge and capacity in child wellbeing, parenting programming and economic empowerment for vulnerable families
  • Effective internal coordination within project and other teams

Qualifications

Required Professional Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience working in child development, child protection, parenting, economic empowerment and family support and other relevant programmes in development or humanitarian settings
  • Knowledge of principles and programming approaches for working effectively with parents and caregivers are essential
  • Experience in facilitating activities for or working directly with parents/caregivers in Turkiye is essential
  • Knowledge of the policy, structures and available services of the Ministry of Family and Social Service in Turkiye is desirable
  • Experience in planning and/or implementing parenting curriculums is an advantage
  • Skills and willingness to engage male and female caregivers to identify suitable economic empowerment activities for individual families
  • Ability to facilitate joint activities to promote positive child-parent’s/caregivers’ relationship
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ethical sensitivity and ability to effectively communicate with caregivers (and their young children) and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct activities and regular outreach in the field/rural areas particularly in engaging families and communities to address issues of protection and care for children
  • Ability to negotiate with and mobilize the community and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player and collaborate effectively with other stakeholders
  • Commitment to and understanding of WV’s aims, values and principles

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • Diploma or relevant education qualification in community development, family support, child development, psychology, social work and other relevant subjects.
  • Certification or other recognized courses on Education, Child Development, Parenting programmes, Child Protection, Economic Empowerment, MHPSS, or other relevant subjects.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of inter-agency tools, guidelines and other resources for parenting/family programming is desirable

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Prior experience in working with NGO is preferred
  • Prior experience in emergency and humanitarian response
  • A local from the project locations is preferable

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

Domestic travel to project sites only

Language Requirements

Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) in Turkish. Arabic language is a plus.
