 JOB SUMMARY 

International Medical Corps provides community-based child protection services to vulnerable populations, requiring a strategic and comprehensive approach to addressing child protection concerns.

 The Child Protection Field Assistant (CPFA) will be responsible for supporting the capacity building of local Community Based Organization staff on conducting structured PSS programs including parenting skills programs and PSS activities for children and youth.

In addition, to contribute to the fundamental goals of the child protection sector to prevent violence, abuse, and exploitation, and to ensure displaced, IDPs and host community children can access protection services.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The main tasks and responsibilities will be to support CBO and other partner staff in the following areas:

 

  • Following up on educational, psychosocial, and recreational activities for children and youth
  • Developing appropriate systems and processes for aspects of programming such as the scheduling of activities, recording children’s attendance, keeping accurate, daily updated records, and safely storing them
  • Actively building trustful relationships with children.
  • Identifying and referring cases of children at risk to relevant CP services, (as well as ensuring to directly refer children when needed)
  • Observing children with specific needs and ensuring they are well integrated into the activities and if needed referring them to relevant protection and support services.
  • Addressing queries from children, caregivers, and community members about the activities and interventions
  • Identifying and providing materials required for activities preferred by children, in coordination with relevant departments and procurement procedures.

 

In addition, the CPFA will be required to:

 

  • Meet program performance goals.
  • Ensure accuracy in providing the data required for reporting purposes.
  • Understand how to use and share the needed materials for the activities
  • Ensure timely and technically sound implementation of all child protection activities
  • In coordination with the Child Protection (CP) Officer, develop and plan child protection activities appropriate for target beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to the development of child protection training materials in selected topics as needed.
  • Implement field-based activities under the guidance of the CP Officer
  • Conduct service mapping in targeted locations and make sure that service mapping is updated regularly.
  • Conduct capacity assessment and analysis for NGOs and CBOs under the guidance of the CP Officer
  • Liaise and coordinate with local counterparts and partners on child protection-related activities.
  • Contribute to the development of monitoring and reporting tools as needed.
  • Monitor the progress of project activities in relation to child protection, by following up with the local partners.
  • Ensure that project activities are developed and implemented in line with IMC’s mandate, policies, procedures, and country strategy, including donors’ requirements, national and international rules, and guidelines.

 

In addition to the above, the CPFA will be required to support any other reasonable duties, as assigned by the Child Protection officer and coordinator.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in psychology, social work, education, or related field of study or equivalent degree.
  • 2 or more years of work in humanitarian programs related to child protection and/or psychosocial programming with children
  • Academic degree with 1 year of work in humanitarian programs related to child protection and/or psychosocial programming with children
  • equivalent degree with 2 years of work in humanitarian programs related to child protection and/or psychosocial programming with children

 

Additional Information:

  • Knowledge of operations of local and international NGOs and CBOs
  • Field experience and solid understanding of psychosocial/protection issues within the context
  • Experience in staff capacity building
  • Fluency in English for a field position is a high requirement. Better to be able to communicate and good understanding of English. Fluent in local languages Arabic and Kurdish.
  • Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, prioritize work under pressure
  • Ability to maintain and respect confidentiality
  • Respect the code of conduct and policies of the IMC
  • Good communication, listening, and social skills
  • Skills in group learning techniques, as well as skills in problem-solving, conflict resolution, team building,  planning, and organizing
  • Attention to detail, well organized, and driven to results.
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people from different cultural backgrounds.
