JOB SUMMARY:

The Child Protection Field Assistant will strengthen awareness, child protection risk mitigation, and support for vulnerable and at-risk children and their caregivers at the community level.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Outreach and Awareness-Raising:

  • Responsible for mobilizing communities to effectively respond to promoting children’s rights.
  • Liaise with community leaders and parents to introduce program activities and encourage community involvement in their implementation and monitoring.
  • Establish and strengthen Child Protection community-based committees to ensure they operate according to their terms of reference.
  • Assist CP-CBC members in identifying child protection risks and developing action plans to address these risks through self-help methods or using available community resources.
  • Facilitate community engagement and dialogues on abduction prevention.
  • Conduct training for community-based stakeholders on Child Protection, child safeguarding, and accountability to affected populations.
  • Ensure that community-based child protection Committees (CP-CBC) are supported to conduct awareness-raising activities on child protection issues.
  • Support needs assessments in target and surrounding communities to implement program activities effectively. Facilitate community awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting child rights and child protection at the community level.

 

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Seek and document community feedback.
  • Monitor distribution of items to support children, where relevant.
  • Track prevention and risk mitigation program activities.

Coordination, Advocacy, and Representation:

  • Coordinate regularly with community stakeholders to strengthen child protection risk mitigation and
    prevention.
  • Coordinate with other sector mobilizers/ outreach teams.
  • Promote child safety and well-being in all activities.
  • Represent program goals and child protection standards.

Security and Conduct:

  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies.
  • Foster a safe and supportive working environment for all child protection staff and partners.
  • Exemplify core principles of child protection programming, including do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, and prioritizing the best interests of the child.
  • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the program and organization, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding, and PSEA policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically, a bachelor’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Typically, 1+ years of experience working with community groups is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to core principles of child protection programming, including the
    provision of child-friendly and child-centered services.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills to lead individual and group discussions.
  • A trusted member of the community.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and local language requirements.
