About the Children and Family Intensive Support Program

The Children and Family Intensive Support Program is a new program funded by Australian Government Department of Social Services. The program will deliver services for families that will build on the strengths of families and communities to care for children in their culture. Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation will be a key member of the Children and Family Intensive Support Program which uses collaborative, culturally appropriate, strengths-based and family-centred approaches to support families to address a range of issues such as family/household assessment and engagement, case management and referrals. The program will provide culturally responsive, trauma informed and child centred services to children and their families/households that are based on evidence and respond to the needs in the community.

Option to salary package a maximum of $16,050 from your gross salary each year; 5 weeks pro rata annual leave per year; and a 35-hour week. Skills and experience

Essential:

Participate in intake, assessment and outcome processes for Children and Families that engage in the program

  • Proactively participate in the referral/intake processes
  • Collaborate with Referral Organisation to assist in determining if the referral is appropriate for the program. Utilise creative skillset in providing an appropriate alternative service provider if the referral does not meet the program requirements
  • Contribute in client assessment and outcome processes
  • Relate to other services in a professional manner and work collaboratively in the interests of all clients

Develop and review the Client Support Plans and Goals for each family engaged in the program

  • Contribute to the development of the client support plans and goals with the TS, ACEO and FSW
  • Conduct thorough monthly assessments throughout the life of the case plan for each family engaged in the program
  • Provide expert advise and guidance to FSW for all client support plans and goals including consideration around managing identified risk levels for the family and workers

Manage a small caseload of up to 5 families engaging in the program

  • Maintain a caseload including assessments, developing case plans and goals, case reviews with TS and ACEO
  • Conduct home visits, risk assessments, positive engagement with families
  • Ensure all admin tasks relating to case management are completed in a timely manner

Collaborate with Family Support Workers, and provide expert advice around high risk Safety Plans and Case Plans

  • Use expertise to identify risk and harm for clients in referrals and assessments completed
  • Assist in the development of Safety Plans, Case Plans and Risk Assessments, with FSW, TS, ACEO especially if it involves serious risk issues such as self-harm and or suicide ideation and review as needed

Contribute to the overall development of the program

  • Comply with LNAC’s organisational policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures and participation in implementation as required
  • Contribute to the development and procedures for the LNAC CaFIS program including participation and implementation as required

Meet administration, report writing and compliance obligations, adhering to ethical processes and guidelines

  • Complete all documentation and communications in an accurate, professional and timely manner meeting legislative requirements and LNAC expectations
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports as required
  • General filing, archiving, photocopying, database and file maintenance, collating and distribution of paperwork
  • Microsoft Word and Excel and client record keeping programs to be utilised for daily administrative tasks

Oversee, provide support and supervise the team of Family Support Workers

  • Provide leadership, support and direction to staff, by ensuring effective work practices are followed that are in line with established policies and procedures and guidelines
  • Contribute to FSW’s performance probation and performance reviews, ensuring any areas of concerns and or learning and development are discussed in a timely manner and prior to the reviews
  • Ensure that quality practice, appropriate guidance and supports are provided to Family Support Workers
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and training. Remain well informed of evidence-based practiced for community support workers

Contribute to a proactive and positive team culture.

  • Establish and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with all LNAC staff, including LNAC Management, CaFIS Program Manager, FSW’s, TS, and ACEO and respective partner organisations
  • Attend and positively participate in team meetings, group supervision and training
  • Take responsibility for giving and receiving feedback including appropriate recognition which reflects the contribution of staff within the team setting
  • Uphold team decisions by promoting a team approach to problem solving and encourage innovative practice
  • Utilise team peers to ensure best practice in client service provision

Compliance with the WHS Act

  • Comply with LNAC WHS Policies and Procedures
  • Contribute to LNAC organisation continuous quality improvement and internal reporting
  • Sound working knowledge and understanding of Work Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Observe safe work practices, including reporting hazards and incidents in a timely manner
  • Take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of staff and others.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff to maintain a safe and secure environment

Key Selection Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social services, community services or similar profession with a minimum 3 years’ experience working with children and young people with a trauma background
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of brief intervention, counselling and/or mediation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the range of family risk and protective factors which impact on child outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in working with culturally diverse communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and a commitment to early intervention as a strategy to optimise child outcome
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child protection issues and the NT child protection system
  • Experience in staff supervision and training, including developing staff knowledge and skills in relation to the child protection system
  • Demonstrated good writing skills and experience in writing reports
  • Understanding and experience of cultural protocols, together with a willingness to work respectfully in accordance with Larrakia and other Indigenous culture
  • Possession of, or ability to quickly acquire, a First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • A valid Working with Children (OCHRE) Card, National Police check and Current NT Driver’s Licence (C Class minimum)
  • Identify as Indigenous

Desirable:

  • Proven experience working in case management and use of case management programs and/or tools
