Position Summary:
The City of Portland Bureau of Parks and Recreation (PP&R) is seeking a dedicated and experienced City Nature West Natural Areas Supervisor. In this role, you will lead a skilled team of natural resource professionals responsible for the ecological health of and sustainable access to more than 35 natural areas and nature parks, totaling more than 6,000 acres on the west side of the Willamette River, including the iconic Forest Park. Your work will directly impact environmental health, climate resiliency, workforce diversity, partnerships, and sustainable public access to these cherished lands. What you’ll get to do:
- Lead and supervise a team of represented and non-represented natural resource professionals, providing training, coaching, recruitment, and performance evaluations.
- Plan, organize, and allocate work to staff, ensuring efficient, safe, and effective operations.
- Support ecological planning and restoration, specialized vegetation management and general maintenance of natural areas using multiple strategies and with climate resiliency in mind.
- Apply principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion to all aspects of your work, fostering an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to promote community stewardship and develop robust community partnerships.
- Manage the Renew Forest Park program and the City-wide Protect the Best Program, ensuring alignment with adaptive ecological principles and sustainability and access goals.
- Apply relevant regulations, permitting, policies and procedures pertaining to natural area care to capital and maintenance projects within these public lands.
- Conduct asset management, project management, and facility management duties to support the overall mission of PP&R.

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
- Experience leading or supervising a team, including training, coaching, hiring, conducting performance evaluations, enforcing workplace safety standards, and allocating work to staff.
- Experience with land stewardship, vegetation management, trail, and access issues, and/or natural area care.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, permitting, policies and procedures pertaining to natural area care, along with the ability to interpret and apply them.
- Ability to supervise a multicultural workforce, promote an equitable workplace and apply equitable program practices to diverse and complex City services.
- Experience in program administration, budgeting, and building effective working relationships with both internal and external partners.Applicants must also have:
