Job description

GIZ’s Civil Peace Service (CPS) programme „Dealing with the past and shaping a future free of violence – strengthening non-violent conflict transformation approaches for sustainable peace in Nepal“ aims at creating spaces for non- violent conflict transformation. It does so through support to dialogue forums, community mediation, Nonviolent Communication, conflict-sensitive media, and theatre for conflict transformation. CPS further works with local actors to promote holistic approaches to Dealing with the Past, that seek justice, reconciliation, and healing. To strengthen local peace structures CPS cooperates with partner organisations working in diverse fields of nonviolent conflict transformations. This cooperation focusses on strengthening the expertise of the partners Forum for Protection of Public Interest (Pro Public) and Human Rights Forum (HURF). Pro Public is promoting a culture of peace by capacitating local communities to resolve local disputes through mediation and dialogue. HURF is strengthening judicial structures and protecting human rights at local level in Koshi Province.

Your tasks

  • Contribute to promoting infrastructures for Peace, such as mediation, nonviolent communication (NVC) and Dialogue in Nepal
  • Support and (Co-) facilitate trainings for provincial and local (non-)governmental actors for mediation and dialogue by contextualizing the international experiences and practices into Nepal
  • Support strengthening the larger Mediation, Dialogue and NVC community, in Nepal by exploring opportunities for continued capacity building and engagement
  • Support and strengthening of organisational development along with public relations and networking
  • Capacity building and support of the partner organisations in knowledge management and resource mobilisation
  • Advise on planning, monitoring, evaluation and implementation of activities of the peacebuilding programmes of the partners

Your profile

  • University degree in social work, social science, peace and conflict studies, psychology, development studies, or related field
  • Expertise and practical experience in the field of peacebuilding, such as mediation, dialogue and/or NVC for nonviolent conflict transformation
  • Understanding of human rights and human rights implementation approaches
  • Expertise and experience in organisational development (planning, resource mobilisation, knowledge management, networking, and public relations) for peace building organisations
  • Experience in designing, conceptualizing, and facilitating trainings using innovative, creative and participatory methods
  • International working experience with civil society actors, specifically in peacebuilding is an asset
  • Familiarity with project planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Professional experience in a (post-)conflict context, especially in Asia, is of added value
  • Fluency in English and the willingness to learn Nepali; German language skills are an asset

Location information

A contact person for security risk management is appointed at the local GIZ office. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. At the site of operation, the particulate pollution occurs to be many time higher than the European acceptable limit. As part of the selection process and during the recruitment examination you will be informed of appropriate protective and behavioral measures.

GIZ’s Development Service is looking forward to applications of candidates with a professional qualification and / or university degree and at least two years of professional experience. In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union.
