Job description
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a program for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Jordan, the GIZ-CPS aims to strengthen the ability of civil society actors to engage in dialogue and to promote non-violent conflict transformation. The overall goal is to contribute to social cohesion and to enable people – especially refugees and vulnerable groups in host communities, as well as youth and women – to shape their lives with a perspective for the future.The CPS partner organisation “Ruwwad Al-Tanmeya” (Arabic for entrepreneurship for development) is a non-profit organisation that works with disenfranchised communities through education, youth volunteerism and grassroots organizing. Its programmes aim at strengthening initiative and facilitating redress to problems prioritised by members of the community.
Your tasks
- Work within the team of Ruwwad in East Amman to assist building capacities through designing and implementing a participatory English Language component, as well as Digital Literacy Education component, thus enabling access to educational and professional opportunities for disenfranchised youth
- Develop a curriculum and training materials for teaching and learning English and basic Digital Literacy skills, that are interactive and tailored to the context and needs of the youth. These materials should be aligned with participatory approaches and dialogue methods and include essential elements of the Life Skills and Citizenship Education framework
- Conduct regular, interactive English language sessions with the youth scholars, as well as team members of Ruwwad, based on their level of assessment. This includes facilitating regular dialogue sessions in a participatory manner
- Conduct assessments to capture learning results and adjust the teaching approach in a participatory manner, including by developing context-relevant indicators
- Contribute to the further integration and mainstreaming of conflict transformation methods into all of Ruwwad’s programmes, by engaging in reflection rounds and mapping exercises with the Ruwwad team
- Support the IT officer in identifying areas of intervention in digital literacy and conduct group or one-on-one skill-building sessions
- Participate in regular meetings and feedback sessions with the Ruwwad team, as well as the CPS team, to collaboratively assess progress and plan possible further areas of engagement in Ruwwad’s other programmes
Your profile
- University degree or equivalent in English language/studies, English literature, English translation, education, social sciences, pedagogy, political science, psychology, arts education, or a related field
- Work experience in teaching English and designing and delivering capacity building workshops and trainings
- Demonstrated competence in inclusive collaboration in multi-cultural teams and experience in stimulating and fostering participatory and sustainability processes
- Knowledge of basic digital literacy and ability to conduct related skill-building sessions
- High degree of intercultural competency and sensitivity to diversity and inclusion and experience of living outside the own home country
- Knowledge of methods of conflict transformation, either in artistic expression, peace education, dialogue processes or non-violent communication
- High motivation and willingness to adapt to a challenging context and to changing environment
- Business fluent in spoken and written English; at least basic knowledge of Arabic is required

In some cases, there may be restrictions on freedom of movement that are specific to the environment in which the work is carried out.
