Job description

The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Kenya, the GIZ – CPS contributes to the transformation of violent conflicts in the context of social inequalities. The programme supports civil society and governmental partner organizations that are committed to strengthening civil conflict transformation through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, the establishment of dialogue structures and psychosocial support services. The Peacebuilding Advisor will work closely with programme components, identified partner organization(s) and relevant structures in designing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting of strategic interventions linked to Peace Education (with a focus on methodologies of non-violent conflict resolution, gender, human rights, conflict sensitivity) as well as integration of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and aspects of Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) to programme projects.

Your tasks

  • Main/key contact person for the identified Partner Organization(s) at Programme’s technical level
  • Participation in planning/exchange meetings or workshops with the selected partner organization(s) to advise and discuss relevant interventions, in line with programme’s objectives and agreed upon areas of priority for the partner(s)
  • Capacity strengthening and sensitization of partner organizations staff, target groups, relevant structures and CPS staff on Peace Education, Integration of MHPPS and alternative dispute resolution in projects
  • Guide and support partner organizations in compiling and submission of change/impact/success stories
  • Work closely with peacebuilding advisors in the capacity development for peace structures, MHPSS and alternative dispute resolution components in strategic planning, to shape and strengthen the components work when it comes to designing, implementation, monitoring and reporting strategies
  • If required, support conflict analysis and context assessments as well as trend analysis to inform or shape programming.
  • Provide necessary administrative support during project implementation or programme related engagements

Your profile

  • Degree in social sciences, adult or and peace education, law, conflict and peace studies, counseling psychology, mental health and psychosocial support or any other relevant field
  • Experience in capacity development, alternative dispute resolution, mediation, adult and peace education, MHPSS, etc.
  • Many years of work experience
  • Experience working at community level and / or government institutions
  • High level of tolerance, flexibility and adaptability is key
  • High intercultural sensitivity and ability to work in a team. High degree of diplomatic awareness and tact
  • Integrity and professional discretion are essential
  • Strong communication and organizational skills as well as good facilitation skills
  • Business fluent in English; Kiswahili language skills will be an added advantage
  • driving licence is needed; willingness to drive to remote areas

GIZ’s Development Service is looking forward to applications of candidates with a professional qualification and / or university degree and at least two years of professional experience. In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union.
