For our operations in Dohuk/Iraq, we are looking for an Civil Peace Service (CPS) Advisor (m/f/d) – Transitional Justice.
Assignment period: 09/01/2024 – 12/31/2025/full-time
Field of activity: Peace, Security and Emergency
The CPS is a global programme working on the prevention of violence and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Iraq the CPS project advises governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations on addressing injustice, providing psychosocial support and securing peace. CPS specialists also support minorities affected by IS crimes through training sessions, technical advice and networking with national and international stakeholders. In the field of Dealing with the Past, CPS supports the Commission for Investigations and Gathering Evidence in gathering information to bring those responsible for the crimes to justice. Thereby, the Commission contributes to the overall process of transitional justice and accountability for survivors.
Your tasks
- Analyzing the services that the Commission for Investigation and Gathering Evidence (CIGE) offers to survivors and families of victims (on the basis of international legal standards and psychosocial support mechanisms) and concluding advisory to the leading judge and the team;
- Supporting CIGE’s cooperation and networking activities with international, governmental, and civil society organizations as well as justice actors, structuring it further and expanding CIGE’s current network;
- Design and support needs- and interest-based exchange structures in close cooperation with other CPS partner organizations;
- Further developing a concept for CIGE’s outreach, including communication with survivors, partners as well as the broader Iraqi and international public;
- Conducting a capacity needs assessment of the staff of CIGE and other relevant partners and seeking convenient solutions, including the improvement of staff care (possibly in cooperation with other CPS experts).
Your profile
- Graduate (Master level or equivalent) in international law or political sciences or similar subjects followed by a related professional experience in the field of international law;
- Substantial experience in the delivery of legal and/or psychosocial services for victims of general or gender-based violence as well as serious human rights violations;
- Profound understanding of modern techniques of public relations and networking, experience in implementing participatory methods and multi-actor partnerships;
- Capacities in the facilitation of organizational change processes;
- Work-related experience abroad, ideally in West Asia, as well as knowledge of the history, culture, and political situation of Iraq;
- Strong ability to motivate people, team orientation and high level of communication as well as facilitation skills;
- Business fluent in English; working knowledge in Arabic, Kurdish, or German is an asset.
