Tätigkeitsbereich
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a global programme for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. CPS professionals support local partners in their long-term efforts to promote dialogue, human rights, and peace. The CPS programme of GIZ in Uganda focuses on the prevention and transformation of land conflicts. At the heart of the programme is support for 12 Interest Groups in Acholi, Karamoja, and Teso, as well as one partner organisation in Kampala. Altogether, these networks include around 100 civil society organizations — among them women’s organizations, academic institutions, faith-based groups, traditional leaders, and representatives of local government. The aim is to empower these actors to better coordinate their efforts and interventions, thereby improving the prevention and transformation of land and natural resource conflicts. This ultimately contributes to more effective land management structures and mechanisms, and to enhanced protection of land rights in the region.

Standortinformationen
Moroto, in Uganda’s Karamoja region, is a semi-arid area with warm days and cooler evenings. Basic healthcare is available locally, with more comprehensive services at Matany Hospital (37 km) and specialized care in Kampala; pharmacies stock essentials, but bringing medication is advised. Daily shopping is possible at the central market and small supermarkets, and ATMs are available though sometimes inconsistent. Moroto is an 8–9 hour drive from Kampala. Education and childcare are limited, making the station unsuitable for candidates with school-aged children. Housing can be found through local brokers and with assistance of GIZ. GIZ arranges private security services for staff. Mobile internet is available through local providers, though the connection is not reliable. Leisure includes hikes on Mount Moroto, nearby reserves, both local and international eateries. The annual Karamoja Culture Festival brings a colorful and lively atmosphere to the town. The CPS of GIZ maintains an office in Moroto with a team of both national and international advisors present.
The security situation in Moroto requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en.
