Civitas Maxima (CM) coordinates a network of national and international lawyers and investigators who work for the interest of victims of international crimes. CM represents victims of war crimes and crimes against humanity. It operates in situations where no legal action to bring the perpetrators to justice has been successful and works in close partnership with the Global Justice and Research Project (GJRP) based in Monrovia.
CM was registered in September 2012 as an association in Geneva, Switzerland, and is recognized by the Swiss authorities as a not-for-profit organization. CM is an equal opportunity employer.

Position: Communications Manager
Contract: Fixed-term contract (1 year) with a possibility to extend to an indeterminate contract under Swiss law, full time, 40h per week

Under the responsibility of CM Geneva’s Director, the line management of CM Head of Operations, the Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Civitas Maxima Communication Strategy. The Communications Manager is responsible of the following tasks, including but not limited to the following:
Strategy:
- Participate in the development and implementation of CM Communications Strategy, including Communications plans.
Communication content and materials:
- Create media and communications content consistent with CM Communications Strategy;
- Write and disseminate articles;
- Write and disseminate press releases, press kits, newsletters, short videos, infographics and related communications materials to provide a consistent, targeted and impactful message to the relevant audiences according to CM Communications Strategy;
- Design invitations and related communications materials for CM fundraising department;
- Coordinate the production of CM monthly Focus on International Justice and Annual Report and Trial Monitoring, including writing, editing, graphic design, and dissemination;
Digital communication:
- Lead the creation digital content such as visuals and video clips that explain and promote CM mission, values and related activities;
- Ensure informative, relevant and honest information is regularly communicated to the relevant audiences according to CM Communication Strategy;
- In charge of running the content and functionalities of CM’s website and blog, ensuring its content is up to date, relevant, informative and convey a clear and compelling message to reach its audience according to CM Communication Strategy;
- Lead in conceptualizing and organizing webinars/podcasts.
Media relations:
- Build and promote CM’s media presence and profile;
- Identify opportunities to promote CM work;
- Develop and maintain a network of journalists by engaging proactively with press, radio and TV to strengthen the visibility and impact of CM’s work;
- Serve as point of contact for media and public questions;
- Develop and update regularly CM media database;
- Support CM Team in media engagement.
Outreach
- Coordinate Trial Monitoring, including writing, editing, graphic design, and dissemination;
- Run CM outreach projects and activities;
Other:
- Supervise the Communication Assistant;
- Monitor and analyze CM media coverage, social media and online presence;
- Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant field;
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant and progressively responsible professional experience in a similar role;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of communication practices and techniques;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media (including social media ads, analytics);
- Proven experience creating targeted content;
- Creative writing;
- Experience in media monitoring, analysis and reporting;
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design essential;
- Demonstrated interest in and understanding of international justice and the NGO sector;
- Computer literate, proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Suite (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop), WordPress (SEO, plugins, analytics, templates), Canva, Mailchimp;
- Fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French.
