Drives truck and trailer: 18-wheel semi-tractor with log bunks & racks to haul logs in a safe and efficient manner to the designated location(s) (ex. woods to yard, woods to customer, and/or yard to customer). Applying knowledge of commercial driving skills within normal to difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, uneven ground or tight loading/unloading areas in and out of the woods. Abide by and have a strong understanding of all Company, DOT, State and Federal transportation safety regulations and laws. Frequent daily physical demands of climbing, sitting, standing, walking, crawling, crouching, squatting, lifting/carrying, reaching, bending, push/pull motion, and twisting.
Qualifications needed for the position of a log truck driver include a high school diploma or equivalent, an up-to-date Class A CDL or commercial driver’s license. Candidate will need to pass a drug/alcohol screening, and have a clean driving record. Possess the ability to use a log loader grapple or center mount log loader. Must be able to use a GPS to independently plan each driving route, have excellent time management skills to ensure on-time delivery, and excellent communication skills for interacting with customers in a professional manner and uphold the highest level of integrity. Must secure logs with straps, chains, or like tools and trim logs for safe travel and proper weight distribution. Perform inspection of truck and trailer before and after assignment to ensure safe operation of equipment. Including some preventative maintenance such as, but not limited to, fueling, checking fluids, tire pressure, truck and trailer lights, brakes and hydraulic components. Complete invoices and other paperwork as required with basic math skills and accuracy. Report incidents with supporting documentation to the appropriate individuals. Salary is based on knowledge and skills. Will train the right candidate.
