Client Engagement Coordinator – Small Business Development Center

POSITION SUMMARY

This position operates under the direction of the Executive Director of CCBI, Business Programming, and ECE and coordinates educational programming, client engagement, and community outreach for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The client engagement coordinator of the SBDC will support delivery of the services and collaborate with business advisors, instructors, faculty, and staff on a daily basis. This individual in this position will execute all aspects of aspects delivery of high-quality courses and workshops, ensure resources are used efficiently, and review and monitor registration on a regular basis. Provides coordination for a variety of community and grant-funded activities. This position coordinates marketing and communication to the business and entrepreneurial community regarding the SBDC. Must be able to work with individuals and small business owners from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Coordination

  • Leads program development
  • Provides program information to perspective clients and small business owners
  • Maintains records of participation and attendance and reports metrics
  • Maintains college facilities and equipment
  • Supports training and consulting activities of independent contractors and part-time faculty and monitors activities to assure contractual responsibilities and deliverables are met
  • Makes recommendations to the director regarding hiring of part part-time/adjunct faculty and independent contractors
  • Works with program staff to develop year-long class schedules and makes recommendations to the director
  • Contributes suggestions for annual department budget
  • Manages and completes special projects, as assigned

Workshop Development & Facilitation

  • Meets all scheduled and special classes (day and possible evening/weekends)
  • Facilitates workshops for the Small Business Development Center
  • Collaborates on the design and implementation of significant, targeted and time-sensitive SBDC approved training workshops and seminars to small businesses including:
  • Analyzes business needs in the service area and develop training topics to meet these needs
  • Assists in determining course outlines for training topics to teach workshops, seminars, and classes
  • Participates in the review of training evaluations and other assessment data to determine effectiveness of training programs, instruction and program delivery, and to reassess the changing needs of small businesses throughout the Mid-Valley region
  • Prepares customized workshops based on client’s needs and assessments

Community Engagement and Marketing

  • Implements marketing and advertising campaigns
  • Coordinates with college Marketing department on a regular basis to create, deliver, edit, and optimizes marketing materials and campaigns
  • Prepares community outreach strategies, plans, and objectives;
  • Organizes and staffs promotional presentations
  • Prepares articles on small business management topics for publication in regional periodicals
  • Develops and maintains contacts with community and professional organizations
  • Provides effective outreach to promote CCBI/SBDC services throughout the Mid-Valley Region
  • Acts as liaison with other college departments to promote completion of strategic activities

Department/Program Responsibilities

  • Attends staff meetings and participates in designated committee work
  • Represents the department at pertinent meetings as required
  • Participates in leadership activities that integrate and leverage department resources including those of the SBDC and academic, customized training, and non-credit professional development programs
  • Promotes positive image of college and college programs
  • Participates in resource development and grant activities
  • Keeps up-to-date on technological changes and developments in subject area
  • Participates in the Oregon SBDC Network activities including participating in the professional development and other training programs; adheres to Oregon SBDC Network and State of Oregon Ethics laws, as well as all College policies and procedures
  • Keeps current on innovations and trends in relevant subject areas Effectively manages multiple priorities
  • Assists the director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) as needed

Business Advising

  • Provides confidential one-on-one business advising to local small businesses to become more effective, competitive, and profitable covering all aspects of small business issues, including marketing, sales, financial management, business planning operations, and personnel management
  • Recommends services to cover all stages of a business’ life cycle, with a focus on retention and expansion of new and existing business clients; new emphasis on larger employers (10+ employees) as a key component of business advising
  • Holds self and business clients “on task” to maximize efficiency of advising, and collaborate with business clients that engages the client to complete projects and tasks as assigned and agreed to
  • Provides advising and client support on all aspects of developing a business plan
  • Models efficient and productive use of SBDC resources and sets appropriate expectations and boundaries for advising clients; enters advising records into the Oregon SBDC Network client management information system documenting each business served and each advising session provided in a timely manner

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • College coursework in business and/or finance
  • Experience providing culturally relevant training or advising   in a business setting or to small businesses
  • Paid experience developing community engagement and marketing plans and materials
  • Ownership and operation of a small business
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

SCHEDULE & MODALITY

This position is not eligible for remote/hybrid work. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the C2 band and grade
  • Please note: The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study.  No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change.  The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Summer of 2024.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Light Work:   Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
