About the role

  • Visit clients of the Office and their carers, in their own homes throughout Australia, to effectively investigate matters concerning independent living skills, accommodation issues, emotional and physical wellbeing and support requirements.
  • Provide authoritative reports with considered recommendations to assist with decision making in relation to the effective use of client funds to meet their ongoing needs; with specific focus on those clients who are victims of crime, to facilitate requests to access their funds in Court.
  • Investigate and assist in the management of situations requiring crisis care and counselling and make recommendations regarding financial and policy implications where appropriate.
  • Undertake research into the level, provision and access of relevant services provided to clients and their families by government, non-government, private service providers and community services.
  • Identify new services available and their potential impact on the clients. Assist clients in accessing these services where required.
  • Proactively engage in training and professional development to maintain high-level knowledge of issues relevant for persons under disability.

About you

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly of the Supreme Court Act 1986, Trustee Act 1958, the Guardianship and Administration Act 2019, the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006, of the Rules of Court, as they impact upon the administration of funds in Court for persons under disability.
  • Familiarity with the National Standards for Disability Services.
  • Experience in the human services field including the provision of services to meet the needs of clients with ABI, mental health issues, substance abuse issues and survivors of trauma is highly desirable.
  • Ability to have difficult conversations whilst being sensitive to client needs.
  • Active listening skills and well developed professional communication skills.
  • Sound experience and advanced skills in the use of the Microsoft suite of applications.
