Climate Adaptation Project Officer

tendersglobal.net

Discover yourself in Lewisham where what you do makes a difference to our vibrant and
culturally diverse communities!

We have a rich history of welcoming people from all over the world and are proud to be
recognised as the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary, for our work in championing the rights of
refugees and migrants.

The role

We underestimate the risks stemming from a changing climate at our peril. Lewisham Council has
responded to this global threat by recognising the climate emergency and setting ambitious
local targets for action. But the risks we face will not disappear as the world moves to net
zero carbon: many of them are already locked in. The borough needs to adapt in response to the
likelihood of more frequent and intense storms, droughts and temperature variations.

This role will shape our borough-wide adaptation programmes to deliver critical blue-green
infrastructure, rain gardens and pocket parks within our highway network and natural flood
management interventions within our parks and open spaces.

Location

The job is primarily based in Laurence House in Catford, but we operate a hybrid approach where
you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis. You may also
be required to work at or from any other buildings/locations.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking someone to drive the delivery of programmes to integrate critical blue-green
infrastructure into our public spaces and oversee some of Lewisham’s statutory duties
concerning flood risk management. You will be enthusiastic with a keen eye for detail and an
interest in sustainable drainage, landscape architecture, and ecology. Suppose greening the
urban environment is your thing and you have the determination and creativity to inspire
lasting change. In that case, Lewisham is a place where you could play a role in the
development of a climate-resilient borough.

You will be aiding the management of flood risk in Lewisham by expanding our programmes to
deliver sustainable drainage and nurturing relationships between internal departments and
external stakeholders.

This post would suit individuals who are committed to collaborative work to improve Lewisham’s
natural and built environment efforts to be resilient to climate change.

In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that
includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real
difference to our local community.

Salary details

£46, 053-£48, 063 per annum (PO3)

N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of
the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of
the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
