Mercy Corps began working in Kenya in 2008 and has built a robust and diverse portfolio working to enable Kenyans affected by poverty, climate change, resource scarcity and conflict to be healthy, productive and to drive peace and development of their communities. To do this, we deliver integrated programming to strengthen market and governance systems, innovate urban youth employment opportunities, respond to climate-related shocks, address the root causes of conflict, and build the resilience of vulnerable populations – in particular youth, women, adolescents and marginalized communities.
Mercy Corps is seeking a Climate Change Advisor to support climate-focused interventions throughout Kenya. Mercy Corps, through a diversity of program interventions, seeks to address the challenges faced by pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities due to climate change. This includes programs that test incentives for collective rangeland management, improving natural resource management practices, promoting good governance, strengthening livelihoods and supporting climate adaptation, among others. In addition to supporting specific programs to mainstream / incorporate appropriate climate-focused activities, the Climate cnage Advisor will also provide technical support to country-level strategies and interventions.

Works Directly With: Country Director, Director of Programs, Operations Director, Finance Director, Program Managers, TRaQ team, consortium partners, local implementing partners.

The successful Climate Adaptation Advisor candidate will possess significant technical experience, including the design, development and management of interventions in support of climate adaptation. The successful candidate should have the proven ability to influence donors, partners, and peer organizations toward innovative programs and best practices. S/he will have the ability to juggle multiple priorities under tight deadlines and to calmly and diplomatically deal with unexpected events impacting program operations. S/he will also be a team player with a positive attitude to problem-solving and conflict resolution and focus on team building and capacity-building of program staff to apply creative solutions to program quality. The most successful Mercy Corps staff members have a strong commitment to teamwork and accountability, thrive in evolving and changing environments and make effective written / verbal communication a priority in all situations.
This position will be based in Nairobi. Mercy Corps Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC’s policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
