Project Description

ChildFund International USA in Ecuador has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Climate Change and Environmental Education Specialist. ChildFund works with children and adolescents to grow up healthy and in a safe space free of violence through educational programming. ChildFund operates in rural areas including Carchi, Pichincha, Imbabura, Cotopaxi and Tungurahua. In partnership with a local social nonprofit, the Federation of Community Organizations from Imbabura (FOCI), ChildFund intends to implement an environmental education curriculum for children and youth to generate awareness of climate change impact and care of the environment.

The PCRV has been requested to create dialogue spaces to identify knowledge and environmental beliefs in rural communities to develop opportunities for environmental education workshops. The PCRV will work with the FOCI team as a part of the pilot implementation and evaluation, as well as providing recommendations on expansion. The goal is to support FOCI in establishing the fundamentals necessary to include environmental education and strengthen team capacities to achieve the initiative and systematize the experience.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Ecuador together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
