Due to expansion in the service, we are recruiting two Climate Change Officer roles (Internal Job Title – Climate Change Business Partner).
Role 1: Climate Change Business Partner: Resources. A full time Business
Partner to support the Resources Directorate to implement the Climate Change Strategy. This
role will also lead on Green House Gas accounting and supporting Property and Fleet
decarbonisation plans for the Council and improving our approach to scope 3 decarbonisation.
Supporting community-based activity in the geographical patch of Scarborough and Ryedale is
also included.
Role 2: Climate Change Business Partner: Health and Adult Services. A Part
Time Business Partner (0.4FTE or 2 days per week) to support the Health and Adult Services
Directorate to implement the Climate Change Strategy. This includes working with our Public
Health team. This role will also support community-based activity in a geographic patch in
North Yorkshire. Additional hours may be available subject to the requirements of the service.
Our Service
The Climate Change team currently includes a manager, 4 business partners and a project
officer. We enable the delivery of the North Yorkshire Council Climate Change Strategy through
both ambitions for North Yorkshire Council to become operationally net zero by 2030 and for the
wider remit of York and North Yorkshire to become carbon negative by 2040. The three key
delivery themes of the Strategy are Mitigation, Adaptation and Supporting Nature.
The Role
You will work as part of the Council’s Climate Change team supporting delivery of the Climate
Change Strategy. The role is out posted to a Directorate and requires close working with service
colleagues in development of service-based climate change action plans and associated delivery
of those actions. You will be assisting with developing business cases, funding applications to
help services deliver their climate change actions, proactively supporting outcomes through
coordinating Directorate climate action plans, and feeding in these plans and results to the
wider climate change team to help deliver the wider Council’s overall Climate Change Strategy.
You will also be working with community groups in a geographic area of North Yorkshire.
What you will bring
You will have degree or graduate capability and have broad knowledge of climate change and its
impact. You will have good understanding of climate change mitigation and adaptation activity
broadly. You will have experience of managing and advising on a climate change related project,
experience of action planning delivery and experience of working across a range of service
areas, engaging with service leads, managers and communities. You will have IT skills and
ability to interpret and analysis data.
