Position Summary:
CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. The Climate Change Policy Specialist position is an on-site position at the Pentagon providing expert advice to the Department of the Army’s Management Office. This position will participate in Army Headquarter (HQDA) climate change for a and working groups, assist with coordination of Army and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) climate change documents, and assist with the Army Climate Change Working Group. This position will analyze legislative and regulatory proposals, develop policy strategies, and recommend campaign positions on climate change impacts.

This position will develop briefings for Army and Department of Defense officials, respond to Congressional inquiries, and contribute to scenario planning. Analysis of large data sets across multiple regions and climates to develop climate change projections to assess impact to training and training support efforts will also be required.

Required Qualifications:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in climate science, climate adaptation, ecosystem management, ecology, engineering or closely related field AND a minimum of ten years’ experience providing support to Headquarter-level climate change programs, or a Master’s degree in climate science, climate adaptation, ecosystem management, ecology, engineering, or closely related field AND a minimum of six years’ experience providing support to Headquarter-level climate change programs.
  • Experience developing and analyzing impacts of climate change policy.
  • Experience analyzing climate model outputs.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
