Climate change – Technical – Facilitator (Part-time)

BACKGROUND:

People in Need (PIN) is an international, non-profit organization providing humanitarian and
development assistance in over 20 countries worldwide. Formed in 1992 in the Czech Republic, PIN has grown to be the biggest organisation of its kind in post-communist Europe,
providing relief where it is needed, and empowering civil society at home and abroad.
PIN began its work in Iraq in 2003, focusing onthe reconstruction and renovation of schools and health centres. After a short break, PIN decided to re-establish its presence in the country. In 
January 2015, mainly in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country and the massive displacement of people from conflict-affected areas. Since then, PIN has maintained
a strong presence in Iraq. Apart from humanitarian aid, PIN is currently working on long-term programmes supporting restoring livelihoods, education, climate change, and civil society &
good governance programming (CSIG).

Position summary

Under the ICSEF project, PIN supports coordination among civil society actors to address key education challenges in Iraq and to provide practical, evidence-based inputs to education stakeholders and decision-makers. As part of PIN’s ICSEF chairing role, this part-time Facilitator will support the integration of climate change adaptation within the education sector, in line with the National Education Strategy of Iraq.
Based in Erbil, the Facilitator will focus primarily on the facilitation and implementation support of Climate Change Gamification Tools for primary schools, and the application of the Greening Checklist, a self-assessment tool aimed at strengthening the climate resilience of education facilities and their operations. The role will contribute practical field-level insights to ICSEF learning, coordination, and advocacy efforts on climate-responsive education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ICSEF Climate Change & Education Facilitation

• Support PIN’s ICSEF chairing by facilitating climate change–related education activities
  aligned with ICSEF priorities.
• Contribute practical insights from school-level implementation to ICSEF discussions
  and coordination efforts.
• Support engagement with ICSEF member CSOs on climate change adaptation within the education sector.
• Supports PIN active participation at the Education Sector Coordination Group (ESCG) meetings in Baghdad

 

Climate Change Gamification Tools

• Facilitate the implementation of PIN’s Climate Change Gamification Tools for primary school students, focusing on:

 o Climate-smart water management
 o Climate change impacts on agriculture, the natural       environment, and sustainable farming practices

• Support teachers, facilitators, and CSOs in understanding the educational and behavioral objectives of the games.
• Facilitate discussions that link game-based learning with broader climate adaptation and resilience concepts.

 

Greening Checklist – School Climate Resilience

• Support the rollout and use of the Greening Checklist as a self-assessment tool for schools and education facilities.
• Facilitate participatory assessments with school staff and relevant stakeholders to review:

 o Climate resilience of facilities
 o Environmentally sustainable operations and practices

• Support schools in identifying realistic, context-appropriate improvements to enhance preparedness for current and future climate challenges.

 

Coordination, Learning & Documentation

• Coordinate closely with PIN’s ICSEF team to ensure alignment with project objectives and timelines.
• Document key findings, challenges, and good practices emerging from game implementation and greening assessments.
• Contribute short written inputs to inform ICSEF knowledge sharing, meetings, and advocacy messages.

 

Safeguarding & Professional Standards

• Ensure all activities comply with PIN safeguarding, child protection, and conflictsensitivity standards.
• Apply inclusive, participatory, and facilitative approaches in all engagements.
• Perform other ICSEF-related facilitation tasks as required and aligned with the climate change and education focus.

 

GENERAL SERVICE PROVIDER OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Employer stipulates the right to assign the Employee any other kind of work derived from his specialization. In case of urgent work and the like, the Employee may be asked to work overtime as well as during public and other holidays.
• Adhering to all PIN policies and procedures at all times, including those stipulated in the Code of Conduct, National Staff Handbook, Security Standard Operating procedures, etc.
• Punctual attendance to work, including both working hours in the assigned office and scheduling field trips if applicable
• Ensuring timely and effective delivery of tasks
• Correctness and completeness of given tasks
• The Service Provider takes over the responsibility for all entrusted material or cash.
• The Service Provider is obligated to cover all damages or losses caused by his carelessness. The Agreement of Liability of Assets has been signed separately.
• Prompt providing all relevant information to their supervisor
• Maintain the confidentiality of all information gained from employment within the organization, not publicly
  available
• Archiving of all entrusted and acquired documents in a proper manner
• Representing and upholding the values of People in Need at all times
• Behave in appropriate manners at all times and in all places

 

• Knowledge of climate change education tools, games, or interactive learning methods is considered an advantage.
• Understanding of climate-resilient practices, environmental protection, and green initiatives relevant to communities and schools.
• Familiarity with climate change impacts at local, national, and global levels.
• Advanced proficiency in Arabic and Kurdish is required to ensure effective communication with project audiences.
• Intermediate proficiency in English is an asset for future career development and planning (is an asset)
• Previous experience working with NGOs or relevant organizations, with a solid understanding of international working standards and practices.
• Strong facilitation and training skills, including the ability to prepare training materials and related tools, and to effectively engage diverse audiences.
• Effective presentation and public speaking skills.
• Familiarity with designing, organizing, and facilitating webinars and online information sessions.
• Ability to prepare, manage, and maintain documentation and reports accurately.
• Strong personal attributes, including good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt content and delivery methods based on participants’ backgrounds and knowledge levels.
• Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and online meeting platforms.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
