WWF’s diversity-focused internship program, BRIDGE, aims to recruit professionals early in their careers who bring fresh thinking and innovation to the environmental and conservation sector and are well positioned to develop into the next generation of leaders. Our mission is to increase exposure of students from underrepresented populations to conservation and environmental careers, provide professional development opportunities, reduce the barriers to attracting a diverse pool of internship candidates, and develop a pipeline for future WWF hires from underrepresented populations.

 

Position Summary

The intern will provide support on the design and execution of a social media strategy for key Climate team staff for Climate Week. This internship will involve creating content and strategizing delivery of the content. The intern will also assist with overall preparation for Climate Week. The intern will work closely with the Climate Communications staff, as well as with members of the Marketing Team, the Climate Team and other Goal Teams participating in Climate Week.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Climate Comms with developing an overall social media strategy for Climate Week at The Nest Climate Campus (The Nest)
  • Design specific social media thought leadership strategies for key Climate Team staff who will be participating in Climate Week
  • Work with both Climate Comms and Marketing staff to ensure cross-pollination between social strategy for WWF overall during Climate Week and the Climate Team thought leaders
  • Assist in design and implementation of monitoring and metrics for Climate Week social media for WWF thought leaders
  • Assist as necessary with other tasks to ensure a smooth execution for the Climate Week program

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program. Must be an actively enrolled student and not received degree at time of internship start date (June 17, 2024).
  • Interest and proficiency in social media required including ability to create posts in a range of platforms including Linked In, Instagram, X/Twitter, and You Tube.
  • Some understanding of how social media algorithms work.
  • The ability to create a content calendar and program posts across several social media platforms.
  • Some understanding of social media metrics and how to measure social media performance.
  • Interest in environmental and policy issues
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong writing skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with event planning preferred
  • Knowledge of environmental and climate change issues preferred

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Intern would gain direct experience in management of social media platforms
  • Intern would gain direct experience in designing and monitoring social media metrics
  • Intern would learn about how to implement a thought leadership strategy
  • Intern would get exposure to the planning and implementation of a major climate event
  • Intern would learn about messaging to social media audiences about climate change

 

WWF interns will be provided a set of professional development opportunities, aimed at increasing their exposure to conservation and sustainability careers. This includes:

  • Development discussions with their manager;
  • Up to two online courses through Cornell University’s eCornell program;
  • Speed mentoring with different WWF teams;
  • Opportunity to present their work to intern peers and WWF staff;
  • Session on resume and interviewing best practices.

 

Interns will also have access to an array of networking opportunities. This includes meetings with WWF’s CEO, the senior management team, Employee Resource Groups, and representatives from other departments.

Compensation:

Paid – $17 per hour (full-time, 35 hours per week)

Internship Dates:

Internship will run from June 17, 2024 to August 23, 2024
