Bangladesh faces a high level of vulnerability to the effects of climate change stressing the urgency of the country’s climate commitments and its adaptation and mitigation efforts. The Global Climate Risk Index ranks it as the seventh most affected country, with increased susceptibility to extreme weather events such as cyclones, floods, and storm surges. The World Bank is engaging in the country’s ambitious climate agenda on multiple fronts. 

 

As Climate Finance and Carbon Market Analyst you support the World Bank as follows: 

  • Support the country engagement on climate finance and carbon market;
  • Assist in reviewing World Bank Bangladesh portfolio and pipeline, and identify opportunities for accessing carbon finance, and opportunities for earning carbon market credits;
  • Serve as a liaison for multi-Practice Group activities and support organizing knowledge sharing events, roundtables, etc;
  • Organize meetings and ensure smooth communication with development partners, academia, and other stakeholders;
  • Etc.

 

Part of the Talent programme “Swiss Youth at the United Nations / World Bank“, this position is sponsored by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). An International UN Youth Volunteer contract ensures that travel, relocation and UN health insurance costs are covered. Additionally, a monthly living allowance is paid. Skills required

For the programme: 

  • Swiss nationality;
  • Master’s degree;
  • Ideally 12 months of relevant professional experience (min. 3 months – max. 24 months);
  • Max. 28 years old at the date of application;
  • Excellent command of English and 2 official Swiss languages (one active = C1/C2, one passive = A2/B1);
  • Proven interest in joining the international cooperation sector.

 

For this position: 

  • Master’s degree in economics, finance, environmental studies, science, public planning with a focus on Climate Finance or Climate Change;
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (ideally one year) in Climate Change, Climate finance and Carbon markets;
  • Ability to digest technical content and reframe language to make it accessible to a broader audience;
  • Ability to work rapidly and in coordination with the various World Bank teams in the South Asia region, as well as with other development partners working on climate finance and carbon markets;
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Fluent in English.

Application deadline: 10 April 2024 

First round of interviews carried out by cinfo: between 29 April and 07 May 2024 

Final selection: will be made by the host organisation based on cinfo’s recommendation and an interview with them. Selected candidates will be informed around mid-June. 

Onboarding and training: The onboarding process will start after the selection. Selected candidates will have to attend mandatory predeparture training in Biel at the beginning of August.  

Entry on duty: Departure is possible after the training, i.e. from around August 8, 2024. The final departure date will be discussed after the selection and depends on several factors.
