Report to: Service Improvement Lead  

 

Program Overview: Chemonics International, a US-based international development consulting firm, seeks a Climate/Green Technology Solution Advisor for the USAID Iraq Together project. Iraq Together aims to provide more equitable, efficient, and sustainable public services in Iraq, as well as improving government responsiveness to citizens’ needs and demands. Objectives of this project include working with the Government of Iraq (GOI) to improve service delivery and strengthen democratic and participatory governance.   

 

Position Overview: The Climate/Green Technology Solutions Advisor reports to Service Improvement Lead and is responsible for environmental compliance aspects and advising on methods to build green infrastructure that could sustain the country climate and assist the project on protecting the region from draughts. This position is open to Iraqi nationals residing in Baghdad, Iraq.  

 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Advise on environmental compliance of the implemented projects 
  • Provide expertise on climate adaptation measures to protect communities and ecosystems from the adverse effects of climate change 
  • Identify opportunities to apply green technology.  
  • Assisting in building and implementing projects that contain green areas and trees 
  • Work with the management to develop sustainable solutions for building a green infrastructure project aimed at enhancing climate resilience and sustainability 
  • Elaboration of an updated green infrastructure implementation and investment plan for the region of the program implementation 
  • Work with the management on identifying and implementing saving energy and water to recycle and increase the green energy 
  • Advise on recycling methods to recycle the solid waste, water, and sewage 
  • Advise the stakeholders on environmental compliance principles in project implementation 
  • Train stakeholders on climate and environment infrastructures and policies in project design and delivery 
  • Develop metrics, benchmarks, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track the environmental performance and effectiveness of green technology initiatives  
  • Recommend climate change-mitigation techniques or green technologies to facilitate cost-recovery or increased use of environmentally friendly practices by citizens and government.  
  • Advise on sources for green sources of energy to offer sustainable source 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Master’s degree preferred  
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in environmental compliance and green energy management required 
  • Experience working for USAID or other donor funded projects strongly preferred. 
  • Prior experience in designing and delivering green and climate infrastructure related projects 
  • Deep understanding and knowledge on environmental compliance requirements 
  • Fluency in written and oral Arabic and English is required; Written and oral fluency in Kurdish, and other local languages is a plus, but not required.  
  • Prior experience working with governmental entities and partners to deliver green projects 
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of green technology and waste management 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, think critically, solve problems, and distill complex problems into simple solutions 
  • Overall Iraq contextual knowledge with demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders  
  • Clear and concise communication approach both orally and in writing, and lead presentations, trainings, and effective meetings with stakeholders 
  • Prior experience managing and supervising staff
