Position Summary:
CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. The Climate Policy Analyst position is an on-site position at the Pentagon providing expert advice to the Department of the Army’s Management Office (DAMO). This position will participate in Army Headquarter (HQDA) and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) climate change and renewable energy working groups. The position will assist with the development of climate change documents, policy, and strategic initiatives. This position will analyze legislative, regulatory, and policy proposals in order to develop recommendations for strategic responses to climate change and renewable energy impacts to Army training.

This position will develop briefings for Army and Department of Defense officials, respond to Congressional inquiries, and contribute to scenario planning. Analysis of large data sets across multiple regions and climates to develop climate change projections to assess impact to training and training support efforts, will also be required. Travel and attendance to associated climate symposia, working groups, and in progress reviews will be required. Travel may be required overseas. Travel may be up to 10% of this position.

Required Qualifications:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in climate science, climate adaptation, ecosystem management, ecology, natural/environmental sciences, environmental policy, urban planning, engineering or closely related field AND a minimum of five years’ experience providing support to either Headquarter-level programs, or five years’ experience with military training lands and ranges or installation environmental programs, OR
  • Master’s degree in climate science, climate adaptation, ecosystem management, ecology, natural/environmental sciences, environmental policy, urban planning, engineering or closely related AND a minimum of two years’ experience providing support to Headquarter-level programs or two years with military training lands and ranges or installation environmental programs.
  •  Experience in communicating environmental/climate policy and regulations to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to analyze and apply complex scientific findings to real world implications.
  • Current secret security clearance or ability to obtain required secret clearance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
